Well, it shouldn't be illegal as the end of the receiver was not "Designed" as a stock to be "fired from the shoulder", regardless of how you use it. Technically, the definition of pistol includes designed to be fired in one hand, but they don't arrest everyone who uses a 2-hand hold.

The ATF should nail you just for owning something that ugly.
 But if Bushmaster is legally allowed to sell it as a pistol, then you can put the backside of it anywhere you want.
