Can anyone recommend a good but fair priced shooting mat.

Dillon Precision has a good one for $65. It's got a skid-resistant elbow pad area, and the ground side is moisture-resistant. The remainder is tan ballistic nylon and closed-cell foam. It's 70"x27.27" and comes with carry handles and a shoulder strap for when it's buckled into a roll. Stock number is A43-18146.
They also have the Eagle shooting mat/rifle case that serves both purposes well. It's got padded backpack straps and can serve as a drag-bag. It's about double the price, though, at $129.95, and is 47.5"x29". Stock number is A43-17984
Look 'em up at www.dillonprecision.com.
I normally use Dillon, even if I can get something cheaper elsewhere, because Mike Dillon has proved to be "one of the good guys" and has gone to bat for gunowners on MANY occasions, putting his money where his mouth is. I called up one time asking a technical question, and I was directed to Mike, not some flunky. That made a good impression on me, since he took time out of his day for some guy who hadn't bought anything yet. (I wound up getting an XL-650 anyway)

Got to your local surplus store and buy a Parachutest weapons carry pack $20. It opens up and doubles as a good shooting mat. You can also remove a few stitches and make it even larger.

I use the Dillon mat also. Stay away from any black mat,,unless you only shoot from a covered range. They get so freakin hot out in the sun you feel like your laying in a fryingpan. If Dillon would make the elbow area tan instead of black I'd like it more.

If you're a camper, use your bed roll or Thermarest...
I have been doing this for years, and it works great. I especially like the extra padding for my elbows that the Thermarest provides.

I cheaped out and use a left over piece of carpet. Works great for me.
