The responding officer talked to Blackwell over the phone. Blackwell stated he went to Clark's home to try to capture the stray cats. Blackwell states he tried to catch the cat on Clark's porch with a noose, but the cat lunged out at him. That's when Blackwell stated that he shot the cat with his county-issued rifle.

Yea wtf. A cat "lunged" at you? And you were just such a fast draw that you got your gun out in the split second before it tore your throat out? Or was your gun already out? Why were you approaching a cat with your gun out? In what universe would you ever need to shoot a housecat?

Another point, poor lady

"Hey animal control, we have a lot of stray cats. This is my cat, don't confuse it with the strays"
"Ok lady, I'll get the strays."
*comes later, shoots her cat on the porch*
"that was YOUR cat?!"

I just can't see a cat being enough of a threat to use a rifle. Unless I'm underestimating the size of the cat!

I put this incident at the same level as the woman ATF agent who killed a kitten by stomping it to death. This was during Bubba's reign of office.

Some of you have never had to deal with feral or stray cats the way it sounds.

There are few creatures more vicious or infuriating. We adopted a stray kitten into our home and if it wasn't for my (ex)wife, that thing would have been shot crushed and generally broken on more than one occassion. And I generally like cats, though they are evil and will eat you if they get the chance.

How did this animal control officer have his rifle at the ready to shoot the "lunging" cat when he was using a snare pool with a noose on it? Or does animal control now issue rifles with noose snares mounted on a bayonet lug?

Hmmmmm... Maybe a new Tier One fashion accessory for every poseur's AR, a bayonet lug snare noose. I'll bet they could be made for under $10 and sold for $100.

There was a thread in the past month about cat bites. Several members here have been hospitalized for severe infections and sepsis.

How the fuck do you shoot a cat that's lunging at you if it lunged at you while you were trying to catch it with a noose?

Noose in one hand and rifle in the other?

I was hoping that the thread title wasn't about this story....

Here in Wisconsin, we recently had a family who no longer wanted their Cocker Spaniel, so a family member drove miles from home, and let the dog go in the woods.

Days later, the dog found its way home. Incensed, the guy cut the dogs throat and tried to crush its windpipe. Thinking the dog was dying, or dead, he took the dog back to the same woods, and dumped the dog.

But the dog wasn't dead, and so a couple days later, the half dead dog finds his way home AGAIN!! This time, the guy stabbed the dog multiple times, until it wasn't breathing. He put it in a bag, and dumped the dog in the woods.

He was found guilty of animal cruelty... Sentencing is in a couple weeks.

I still have scars from the wild kitteh we "rescued". Had to wear welding gauntlets to handle it for the first couple weeks. An average cat probably can't kill an adult, but they will fuck you up if they feel like it. A cat's life is worth less than stitches and infections.

Yeah in what world would you need to bring your "department issued rifle" to catch a House cat? no wonder he couldn't get it with a noose, his hands were busy with his rifle.
