Is it as safe as any other steel for targets ?

I mean after they're off the car.

I would think they'd just shatter, being cast iron.

Bullets will just punch right through.  It'll almost be like shooting cheese.

lol

I've shot them before. They crack and shatter.

7.62x51 went right through a vented front disc off a f350. Could barely tell I hit it at range. Left a huge hole.

They fall apart, and shatter.

Get some RR tie plates for good cheap steel.....

*points to scar on chest*

Watch for ricochets.

Could have easily hit me in my unprotected eyeballs.

Yup they do not last.

What distance, RX?

What round, if not 223?

Hit it flat-on, right?

No problem, lots of fun.

.308 @ 100m

Back side.

Misc metals at different distances and calibers.

Shooting stuff is fun.

Got some of those. Two de-railments within five miles of here last few years.

Even a subgun will shatter them?

Odd shapes send bullets and parts of bullets all over the place. But, they're brittle and will shatter. I wouldn't put them within 50 yards, just to be safe, but otherwise good to go.

I'd say...25 yards?  Solid brake disk, .308 coming out of FN-FAL.

The piece of jacket threaded past my support hand and magazine, hit me about six inches above my sternum and two inches to the left.

It's never good when you have to look at your buddy and say, "Do you see an exit wound?"

A cast iron flywheel however will deflect anything up to .308. It will leave a crater a free mils deep, but nothing major. 5.56 from more then 50yes will barely leave a mark.

Yeah, like shooting a lock off in the movies with a 357 lead semi-wadcutter. Thankfully I wasn't stupid enough to try it, but a friend of mine did. Stupid hurts.

357 will punch through a garbage truck at 50 yards though.

Just don't use a Deagle, it will zoom right through the cast iron and bore into the earth, deep as the BP Horizon and the next thing you know... ecological armageddon.

Umm.  You are not supposed to remove RR ties from an active rail line.

That matches what they say about the lead core vaporizing and squirting the jacket pieces back at you.

And you are absolutely right about shooting glasses or some kind of eye protection!

Glad you're OK.

Not true. I shot a brake rotor with the one I had(.44mag) and did nothing but break a piece off.

Negative Ghostrider; Deagles are not made in 10mm.
