Woman's gun range outing ends painfully

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A little target practice turned into a lot of hard luck for an Oklahoma City woman.
Anna Herrera-Gomez, 23, was firing a pistol at the H&H Indoor Gun Range on Tuesday when a hot shell casing -- ejected from the 9 mm pistol she was shooting -- fell down the front of her shirt, police said.

The woman jumped as the hot metal touched her skin and she reached for her chest.

That's when she accidentally shot herself in the leg, police Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Herrera-Gomez sustained a minor leg wound and was taken to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.

A paramedic who was target shooting next to her came to her aid, range owner Miles Hall said.

Yeah, as much as I like broads in low cut shirts, they really have no place at the range.

True, but I've had shell casings go down a tshirt. Of course I calmly set down the gun before doing the crazy chicken dance

What's fun is getting a piece of HOT brass (out of a weapon that's been fired rapidly) stuck between your neck and the sling.

Yeah, that was a good one.

I've had hot brass get stuck between my temple and the arm of my safety glasses twice. That hurts. Never shot myself over it though.

I've had that happen, and I cleared my weapon before getting rid of the brass. Left a nice little burn mark, but it's better than getting shot.

This happens a lot in the Basic Pistol classes I teach.  Fortunately, I have been able to take control of the handgun in all cases.

I try to warn my students that a billed baseball cap can go a long way in preventing this.  But sadly, very few women are willing to do so.  I also try to warn them about low-cut tops and open-toed footwear.

I've caught hot brass down the back of my shirt, but it doesn't hurt so bad that I have to immediately flail around to get rid of it...

When going through SRT school...the firers in front of me had a guy get a piece of 5.56 brass down his shirt he went to remove it and an instructor yelled at him to keep firing cause in the real world he might have to suck it up to protect other team members.....

well I'm up next and we start walking forward and firing my partner is in the next lane and because of how I am leaning forward my collar in the back of my shirt is open....we were firing a string of  3 mags on 3rnd burst fire....I got about 20 pieces of brass and a few good 5.56 burn marks on my back..

the instructor came over and used me as an example of what to do with a speech of "train how you fight".....

I was hurting but it makes a good point...put the weapon down before you attempt to remove hot brass

I shot at H&H last month.  A VERY nice store and ranges.  That could have happened anywhere.

Very professional counter people, range officers.  Lots of cops and medics shooting the day I was there, too.

Employees are packing, too.  GOOD!

I highly recommend H&H there in Oklahoma City.

Stuff like this is my biggest concern at the indoor range I use.
