I shot off some fire works and shot off a 30 round clip. I looked at the tree I shot at with a flash light and I can tell 2 bullets shaved the side of the tree. What most likley happened to these bullets?
They most likely became unstable and went in a random direction.
You shot off some fireworks and emptied a Mag .............into a tree??? to celebrate the sunset???? Hopefully, you did not do something you will regret later, what with two missing rounds and all.
If you didn't hear any glass breaking, anyone screaming, cats meowing and gurgling, or dogs barking and gurgling, you're probably in the clear.
Actually, even if you did kill a cat you're ok. |
Sounds like you need to turn in your firearms along with your man card.
If you didn't know what you were firing towards you probably shouldn't have shot in the first place.... Shoot safe guys |
It's okay, he emptied a clip. It sounds as though someone needs to review the rules of firearm safety--specifically the one concerning making CERTAIN one has a safe backstop for all shots fired. |

Please tell us you're not within a quarter mile of any other humans. |

'only works if you're nekkid. |

If you live somewhere where that type of behavior doesn't bother anyone, OK.
If your "outburst" has consequences, they'll soon materialize. HS1 |

Is that one of those "if a tree falls in the woods" riddles? |
doing stupid things like that is what Fienswine feeds on to renew her efforts.
Thanks for the effort |
I tell you this much, that tree will certainly think twice before fucking with him again.
If you dont know... What on earth makes you think we would? We werent there. |
Seriously, can you guys imagine the headlines tomorrow........ arrrrgghh.
what target rounds cant kill people? |
Seriously dude, you are going to be torn to shreds here. That was a seriously incompetent thing to do. That said, I am glad you are at least paranoid about it it after the fact. Let your current fear and paranoia be a motivator for you in the future....do NOT do that again!
Sometimes I'm all for mandatory keyboard/internet posting classes. I hope you're way up in some holler.
NONE its a joke.... There is a story behind it some day when I have some time ill tell it.. |

I wanted to know how much energy the bullet had after nicking something and if it would fragment apart in the air. I was shooting from prone aiming low at the tree. I hear no screaming or police sirens or dogs barking. Im in a area full of woods and I know it was foolish to do what I did but I have to admit it felt great. |
Did ya have tracers? |
I strongly suggest you do not go to the mall to masturbate. |
Stray bullets turn into Nerf darts and marshmellos. Feel free to shoot without a solid backstop.
BTW, who was holding your beer? |
Don't worry too much, nicking the side of the tree cut the range down to 2miles...

I posted this right after it happened. My only defence is I acted like a moron. Ive been drinking and watching that clock count down for the past 4 hours. What do you guys want to hear? I know it was a mistake after I saw that 2 bullets skimmed the tree. What I want to know is what happens to 55gr bullets after they nick someting.
Best suggestion I can make is let this thread die... stop posting to it because the longer you keep it at the top, more will read and tear into you. So far some of the responses werent that bad... It could get worse.
But to answer your question. If they ricochet off the tree and you are in a HEAVILY wooded area. It will hit another tree and that will be that. Just friendly advice. |
Someone, please tell me this is a joke! You were drinking and handling firearms..... #1. "I acted like a moron." #2 You knew it was a mistake AFTER you saw the tree? #3 Nothing more your honor. Nothing more. |
Don't just worry about the 2 rds that skimmed the tree. What about the other 28?. I suggest you take your drunk ass to bed. |
For your benefit and ours, I urge you enlist the help of a mod to commit 'thread seppuku'.
End the thread, obi wan, you're our only hope. |

30-round clip? That sounds like a sweet high-capacity Garand you have there! As for the other thing.. WTF were you doing shooting at night, in the dark, at an object that could deflect in dangerous directions? Please tell me that you don't live in an area where a ricochet can reach someone else... |
Wow, just wow. Wow.
Grow some brains, and then learn how to use em. |
Yes you did
Drinking? and using firearms?!
How about: "I will never drink and handle firearms again. I will never fire into the dark again. I will never shoot at a target that I am not sure of the 'surroundings and beyond.'
If you own a firearm you should know and practice proper firearms safety and known that it was a bad idea beforehand.
They go flying for a long distance. |

we all make mistakes. how about some pics of the wooded area? also, some details on your gun and ammo would be helpful. sounds as if you everything will be ok though. most likely the ricochets probably just burned through the skirting on a couple of your neighors trailers and died out. be on the look out for the coroners wagon tomorrow am just to be sure.
