I just talked to my wife.  We live in central TX, about 287 miles from Houston.
Appaerntly,the teachers have been showing Katrina footage to the kids, and,
talking about Rita, and, my kids are scared stiff.
There is no reg. unleaded gas most areas in Bell and Coryell counties.
The HEB and Wal-Marts are jammed, and, the local city councel...

THAT JUST TOOK MY FRIGGIN LAND AND ANNEXED US!!!

is talking about "Disaster plans"

People are panicked.

I asked her if she was ok, and, she said she was stressed from all the stupid people,
but, was fine.

She:  "We have the two week stock you made last year anyway, and, plenty of ammo.  We're fine."

She has the Honda with a full tank, and, she doesn't drive anywhere other than to do errands, which she can suspend for a long time if needed.

The kids feel better becasue I got on the phone and told them
momma would BBQ the meat in the freezer if the power went out for too long.

Kids:  "  "Barbeque?  Yeah!!!!"

What is scary is that the people down here at the plant I'm gaurding are all like:

"Oh, it's turning North?  Fuck it.  I ain't got nothin' anyway."
And are more concerned about me and my gaurd team than themselves,
when people 300 miles inland are crapping thier pants.

I've got a hell of a lot of admiration for the people of MS right now.

f you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

I'm 30 miles north of DALLAS and people are running around like the fucking world is coming to an end.   Ok, so we MAY get 6 inches of rain and some high winds.  Big fucking deal.

Oh yeah and pardon my angst, the PD changed my schedule for "weather related" requirements.
