I hate the word abrasive, but didn't want to put asshole in my thread title.

I know that most of you don't give a damn because its

a) the internet, and

b) the internet.

but seriously to you accuse random people of trolling when you hear someone ask a question in public?

do you berate other people for asking "stupid" questions.

I mean, I would seriously walk away from a bunch of people if they started talking, just because they are abrasive and rude "And if you don't like you can leave" well yes.... yes I can.

just kind of venting, again not to me directly people haven't been rude, but sometimes I want to let people know that some don't speak for all of us.

end of rant.

Edited to confuse, and confound people.

I look at it this way....

This place isn't like a cocktail party, it's more like a wedding reception.

Do people who show up and bad mouth the priest, the ceremony, or the bride deserve to be treated politely?
No.

What bothers me, is a trend I have seen for members to call other members liars.

Someone posts something that happened to them or whatever and the "bullshit" crowd comes out and starts.

I think calling someone a liar without proof is very bad form.

What also bothers me, is I have seen newly interested persons come on here, and ask honest to god questions, stuff I didn't know or was curious about , especially about politics (cause lets face it, they can be confusing) and instead of correcting him, or giving him an honest answer, he gets troll accusations thrown, or told to shut the fuck up you pinko commie. So instead of leaving with a "man those guys were real nice, and helpful" attitude, he has a "man those republicans are dicks" attitude.

People are always much more comfortable being asshats when posting anonymously and/or from the distance of the internet. Though I deal with asshats in my line of work on a regular basis, most of them are slow to be so vocally "abrasive" because being that way face-to-face can often lead to a good ass-kicking.

I wonder if people would treat you worse crossing any given street in downtown New York......probably.

There's a certain level of silliness that's allowed on the internet that you wouldn't have in person, in a phone call, at work, at dinner, in a movie, or even at a party (not all). If it's well done it's kind of funny. If not it's just stupid and boring.

For real, its funny, I deal with students, and we are a two-year university kind of in the ghetto, so the population is "diverse"

some will try to start shit, but more often then not standing up takes the fight right out of them.

Watch who you go calling republican, I have been and continue to be a registered Democrat since the day I turned 18, and I have never been treated poorly here because of it. I have also not made a secret of it, I have told anybody who cared to ask.

Ask around. I'm the same way in real life as I am on here. I'm blunt and to the point and don't pull any punches. I have an opinion and it's always right. Some people can't handle that, both here and in real life. By the same token I will bend over backwards to help people that I consider to be my friends, and will never use it as leverage or toss it in someone's face.

I don't think it's the blunt people that are the proglem. I think it's the pussies who can't handle it and start threads to cry about it.

You know whats funny, I have met your exact twin here in OKC, seriously evertime I see your posts I think of this guy in my head.

Thats funny,

don't know if you are referring to me being a pussy and crying about it,
nope not at all, not crying really just pontificating.
thinking out loud in other words.

no, after the internet is done, I will still go home to my nice-ish apartment, where my pretty girlfriend lives and be completly fine... i mean it is just the internet.

The premise of his post was all wrong. Some ARFCOM members believe in tough love.

Others are sick and tired of DU people logging on to this board to spread their gloopy gospel.

If there is a legitimate question I try to answer. I try to answer with patience. But some folks just don't listen.

To some degree yes, but you're not bitching about anyone actually being mean to you, just mean in general. I was more thinking of the people that start all those "look at the troll I caught" or "so and so called me a dirty name" threads in the team forum.

The best part is, I'd stack the relatively few "friends" I have (as opposed to aquantances) against those of any likable person anyday. Just by sticking around my friends have proven that they can take some heat, unlike the fair-weather friends of the social butterfly.

His thread title was:

Bush's plan for outsourcing jobs.

Now what does that lead one to think?
Follow that with....

DU Troll

If it is your intent to "help them further their social skills", the very first thing you should suggest, is that they should TURN OFF THE COMPUTERS AND GET OUT MORE.

But by making it a thread subject instead, you further degrade their social skills, by keeping them here.
