Barbara Boxer, in a letter to her supporters, is all pissed off about the ANWR vote.  She stated that she is going to organize a boycott of any oil company that drills there.

Here is my question.  We have a representative government where we elect people to go to Washington and act on our behalf in passing legislation.  The majority of those electors voted to drill.  What right does a Senator have to call for a boycott that can adversely affect the economy just because most of America, through it's representatives, didn't agree with her?

Here is the letter:

Dear Friends,

Today, my heart is heavy. By just two votes, we came up short in our effort to prevent oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, home to over 150 wildlife species. I offer my heartfelt thanks to the over 29,000 of you who joined with me and signed my petition to Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist, demonstrating our strong opposition to this disastrous policy.

In the end, over 90% of Senate Democrats voted to stop this madness -- we just didn't have the votes to overcome the Republican majority in the Senate.

But I want you to know that I won't give up in our fight to stop the drilling. And neither should you. I'm going to use every legislative tool at my disposal to reverse this vote and prevent this terrible policy from going into effect. But we can do more -- today.

I'm planning to organize a consumer boycott of any oil company that decides to drill in this pristine Alaskan wilderness area. If, through our pocketbooks, we can convince these companies to do the right thing, we can still save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the destruction that would be wrought by the oil drilling rigs.

Send an email to the CEOs of ExxonMobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch/Shell, and ChevronTexaco now and tell them to stay out of ANWR!

And then invite everyone you know to join us.

This battle is not over -- not by a long shot.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer

Like a boycott would work.  Everyone wants cheap gas and 99.9% of America won't care where the oil came from when it comes time to pay for it...if the end result is lower prices.

I live in Los Angeles, CA and gas is about $2.45 a gallon for regular unleaded.  At this point folks here would run over babies to get to cheaper gas (something I witnessed yesterday at an Arco station, luckily the mom moved).  Boxer is a dumbass to think people will care about this as an issue when gasoline hits $2.50 a gallon...

Just goes to show that the Democrats socialists have given up even the appearance that they are in the service of those that elected them to serve.   Government is nothing more than a soap-box to push whatever causes they "feel" are important, no matter what the "will of the people" may be.

Not without anothewr refinery, we already don't have the capacity to refine as much as we need. OPEC is putting out more oil a day now than they have at pretty much any other point, it doesn't matter how much you can pump out if you can't refine it at a pace that can keep up with or slightly a head of demand. We need another refinery or 3 in this country, not more oil.

She's pandering to the evironmental wacko constituents. Jst like when she blames guns for crime and she panders to the MMM crowd.  She's a looney that wishes it was 1968 again.  [singing] Kum-by-Ya [/singing]

One more time for review. It doesn't matter where the oil comes from or how much we have. It is the the lack of Oil Refineries that are driving the cost of gasoline up. Don't get me wrong now, i'm glad we are going to drill there, but I don't think that is going to lower the gasoline cost anytime in the near future.

So, the Dems present the problem... dependence on foreign oil.

They want higher gas prices to discourage use, encourage more energy efficient vehicles, and alternative power sources, and "save the environment".

But then they criticize the oil companies (whose prices simply follow the laws of supply and demand) for high gas prices.

But they don't want drilling here in the US, oh, no... that would screw up the environment, disturb the animals, and anything else they can think up.

They offer no solutions, but want to make sure everyone knows the problems are Bush's fault.

I love this bit

In the end, over 90% of Senate Democrats voted to stop this madness -- we just didn't have the votes to overcome the Republican majority in the Senate.

so basically what she is saying is that at least 4 dems voted for drilling in ANWR, and since she only lost by 2 it means its the dems own fault and could have defeated the vote if she had enough pull in the senate.

But I want you to know that I won't give up in our fight to stop the drilling. And neither should you. I'm going to use every legislative tool at my disposal to reverse this vote and prevent this terrible policy from going into effect. But we can do more -- today.

The Calif govt and the enviro wackos are pretty much responsible for the high cost of gasoline in the SoCalif-area. That I know for sure. I toured Ultramar/Diamond Shamrock refineries one of the 5 Oil refineries in So. Calif. Ultramar/Diamond Shamrock supplies 99% of the gasoline to the  independent distributors, and to their branded stations. When that refinery is running full-tilt, they have only a max of 2 days supply of gasoline for the their So. Calif market. Their counterpart in N. Calif Hanford supplies the N. Calif. The gasoline market is in the precarious condition where the refineries can sell every drop of gasoline they make, and if something happens to a refinery, and there is a shut-down for maintence, the price of gasoline goes thru the roof

How about this
In order to lowerr all gasoline prices all state and federal terrifs/taxes are now null and void.
No special "brew" fuels for some cities which drive the cost up.
Sell gas as only gas without all the BS in it.
Welcom to 87 unleaded at $0.75.

Yep, save Anwar.  Need to start floating in rigs off the coast of Kali and drilling the hell out of Kali; preferably within site of Berkely U (is the coast close enough for them to get a good view?).  Time for them to contribute to the cause.

Its hard to believe they would boycott anything fuel related in Kalifornia, I saw in the paper today that gas in Malibu is $3.25 a gallon.

The only prob I have with ANWR is that we don't have a lot ot refineries on the west coast.  I just don't want to see the crude going to Asia, this should be for US use only.... just my opinion.

Unfortunately, Bezerkely cannot see the coast, even from the loftiest hills and Oakland hills.

That would  kinda fuck up the view of some wonderful beaches-the last two places I lived before moving to AZ were Moss Beach and Montara. I frequented all the beaches right there.

BUT......after what the assclown residents in that area pulled when someone wanted to re-open the Half Moon Bay airport to drag racing-and real "NOT in MY back yard" whinig session-fuck 'em. Do it.

Bit of history. The area in the late 90s was fairy depressed, business-wise because businesses suffered greatly when a section of Hwy. 1, called Devil's Slide, started falling off into the ocean and the hwy had to be closed. Twice in 5 years. Severely restricting access to the coastal areas, which in turn banged the businesses there pretty hard. In the 60s there used to be drag racing at the Half Moon Bay airport. Quite successful FWIU. During th gas crunch of the 70s it was halted because it "wasted" fuel.
So....someone came up with the idea of allowing drag racing there again, to attract more people to the coast and hopefully pump up revenues for the local businesses. BRILLIANT!
However, all the local assclowns-that of course work somewhere else and don't NEED to worry about how well the local businesses are doing, said "NO-WAY to much noise. It'll spoil the tranquility of our neighborhoods!"
So the owners of the airport did a sound study. They had about 10 guys bring their drag racing machines to the airport, do a few runs down the runway, and compared them to the noise made by typical aircraft taking off and landing. Guess which was actually FAR louder?

YEP-the airplanes. So their next idiotic tactic was, "But...but...there'll be too much traffic along the coast and we'll lose our quality of life".

Gee....the idea was to increase the flow of people and their dollars to the coast. And the racing would only take place ONE TIME A MONTH.

The NIMBY fascists won out in the end. It's one of the things that pushed me out of that fucking hellhole of a state.

California: Nice place to vist but you gotta be crazy or brain dead to live there-at least in the populated areas.
