references the book Stolen Valor : How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of Its Heroes and Its History

which recounts the following:

During a 1992 bid for the presidency, Sen. Tom harkin of Iowa claimed he had served as a pilot in Vietnam. His claim had surfaced eight years before, during a 1984 bid for reelection to the Senate, when Harkin boasted that he had served one year in Vietnam flying F-4s and F-8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions. Challenged by Sen. Barry Goldwater, Harkin did a quick shuffle, claiming that he had actually flown combat sorties over Cuba during the sixties. Harkin finally admitted he had not seen combat but had served as a ferry pilot stationed in Atsugi, Japan, flying aircraft to be repaired from Atsugi to the Philippines. When pressed by reporters to explain how much time he really spent in Vietnam, Harkin estimated that over a year, he flew in and out of Vietnam a dozen or so times. But Harkin's military record showed no Vietnam service decorations. He finally conceded he had not flown combat air patrols in Vietnam and began describing himself as a Vietnam era vet.

These lying bastards like Harkin think they can lie and strut and nobody - especially not the complicit Bush-bashing Big Media - will remember their history or their own prior words of deception.

Any arfcom Iowans want to explain how this turd is in office?

Bush made him lie about it. Cheney directed Haliburton resources to be spent on pressuring Harkin into admitting he didn't recollect flying B-17G fighter jets into restricted Cambodian airspace during the taking of Baghdad.

Harkin has a long history of being one of the most partisan liars in Congress. This is NO surprise.

What an ass hole.

Yes, Harkin is, as Glenn Reynolds put it, "a Senator who, like President Bush, flew fighter jets during the Vietnam era without seeing combat but who, unlike President Bush, lied about it."

Why is it that the Left is always accusing Bush of being a liar? Psychological projection?

Makes you wonder about the people of Iowa that they would send a man to the Senate over and over who lied about his military service. This was not the first time he has lied about being a fighter pilot in Vietnam.
