What we need is to have a Pro-Constitution Congressman or Congresswoman to write this bill up. Get rid of the 89 sporting purposes junk, maybe make suppressors a Title 1 item without the need for NFA tax/paperwork/wait time, National Concealed Carry, lift Russian/Chinese ammo import restrictions, and get rid of any other infringements on our Second Amendment Rights. I can't fathom how there are any Americans who are for abolishing any of our Bill of Rights, the fact that there are members of Congress that lack the mental capacity to understand America's history and the Constitution is mind blowing.

Outstanding. Let's go on the legislative offensive.

Make it a list of revisions to existing laws referring only to codes and sections to repeal them where possible and tack it on to the 2013 NDAA.

Democrats will vote for it if A) it doesn't clearly identify that they are voting for guns and B) they can get money for the war machine without really passing a budget.

If you think about the pro gun shift since the AWB expired in 2004, we've won a couple important Supreme Court cases, I believe more states are shall issue instead of may issue for concealed carry permits, all the gun friendly television shows, and the exponential growth of the industry; gun control activism had all but died for the most part. Even after Senator Giffords was shot, sure there were the usual suspects in politics and the MSM calling for more gun control but after a couple weeks they all moved on to the next big sensational story.

Even after the horrific events in CT a majority of the comments I've read on web sites that are generally Left leaning are less about gun control and more about the mental health/crazy person aspect.

And why is it that it takes a Senator "with balls" to introduce a Bill that would basically reinforce the Second Amendment to our Constitution? What kind of fucked up America have we become? It's not just the Conservative's Constitution or the Liberal's Bill of Rights.

It might be the best a pro-second-amendment leader can do to keep Obama in check for the next four years...

I would *love* to see a pro-second-amendment leader introduce pro-second laws on the table...

But it might be (given the circumstances) the best that they can do just to keep our rights from getting pushed-back.

If the ultimate standard is, "Introduce a law that makes it hugely and significantly better for me as a gun owner."

Then you might need to look at the current situation: Republicans (counting all of them) don't have a veto-proof majority.

That is the political reality right now.

Obama would veto it (if it made it that far) in a heartbeat, surrounded by weeping children, all with multiple liberal reporters jerking him off on live television.

That is the political reality right now.

It might very well be, that the real standard will be, if *real* conservatives keep a ban from coming to a vote. That is the political reality.

Does the Republican Party hold a veto-proof majority right now? Nope.

Does the Republican Party have the ability to get a veto-proof bill to the desk of Obama? Nope.

That is the political reality.

I wish that the political reality was that we could see positive changes to the restrictions facing gun owners. I would really like to see *more* freedom.

That being said, is that the political reality right now is that the God-fearing candidate who said, "No new gun laws," lost to the "G- D- America!" candidate who promised, "comprehensive" gun reform, and clarified that not only would he fight for a AWB, he would also seek restrictions to handguns.

That is the political reality. Along with Democrats picking up a couple seats in the House, and gaining more control of the Senate.

That is the political reality.

I hope no one is thinking, "Republicans better introduce laws making huge-and-significant positive changes to gun ownership or I am taking my toys and going home."

I hope no one is thinking that... Given the current political climate. Given the media's obvious-and-clear slant on this issue...

I hope no one is thinking that the Republicans should introduce significant changes right-this-second, or they obviously don't take gun rights seriously... There are good *real* conservative leaders who understand what fights they can win, and what hills are worth dying on...

Without a veto-proof majority, even if it made it that far, Obama would veto it with every news outlet reporting on his "courage."

That is the political reality. The political reality is that, given the numbers we might not be seeing positive changes to gun ownership...

With Obama in the Oval Office. With Obama making Supremes picks. With the Senate in Obama's control...

We might want to start with an understanding of political reality when we begin to make demands from *real* conservative leaders...

If I had a magic wand... If a *real* conservative occupied the White House. If a conservative would be making the Supremes picks. If *real* conservatives controlled the Senate... If *real* conservatives held a veto-proof majority in the House... Absolutely, I would *demand* that they push *real* conservative laws through. I would demand it from them...

Right now, my demand is that they draw a line in the sand, and fight any new gun laws.

That is my expectation, given the political reality.

My expectation is that lines get drawn, and no new gun laws get voted on.

That will be a serious political victory given the political circumstances.

Given the fight the liberal media is mounting. Given the Democrat controlled Senate. Given that Republicans do not hold a veto-proof majority in the House. Given that Obama sits in the White House...

Given that reality, it will be a serious, serious political victory (given the mathematics of Washington) if lines get drawn, and a ban is never voted on...

I do understand the political reality right now and we will be lucky if we don't end up with another AWB, however it would be good for something like this to cross the desks of our Senators and Representatives just to refresh their memories of the Constitution. This time it wouldn't pass, and probably not next time either. But somewhere down the road, like 2014 or 2016 it just might have a chance if we pick up some more seats or even a Conservative President.

It'd certainly be nice . . . but time for a reality check......

My realistic side (often confused for a defeatist
attitude) is pretty danged sure that quite the opposite of the OP's dreams will happen ,
and we are going to be in for a very bumpy ride .

With the likelihood
of civil unrest due to the economy in the very near future , I think the
general consensus of our .gov twat waffles will be to push anything
that will help the police keep order  . . . . 'letting' us keep our
assault rifles and hi-cap mags is hardly on their agenda ......they want
to neuter us ASAP.

They know the loudest opponents to further
increasing the reach of big-brother , will also be the same ones who
stand by the Constitution and our Bill Of Rights , and will fight any
further infringement on the 2nd Amendment .

Parading pictures of dead school children around in the media will work perfectly to their advantage . The fact that the majority of the media is already on board with the idea , makes it that much easier to promote the left's socialist agenda .

No amount of screaming from the NRA will stop this now . . . . no worries of what voters think come next election , no vocal celebrities , no rallies , no polls , and no marches.

The statistics are shown to be in our favor , yet the left already twists those around to the point that they no longer resemble any truth .....and their pet media mouths vomit the lies every day and every night .
It's all part of the grandest , biggest and most obvious conspiracy yet ...........and it's working .

Fight what you can , write e-mails,make phone calls , send letters , attend rallies , etc ,etc......by all means , dont give up ....but realize that the deck is stacked horribly against us . . . . prepare for a grim reality

I don't disagree with your general sentiment BUT our inalienable rights do not arise from the 2nd Amendment,  but simply from being free.  The 2nd Amendment prohibits our government from infringing on those rights.  It is a negative to gov, not a positive to us.

Yes. We need to adopt their tactics to win. Nobody ever won a war by fighting on the defensive -- they had to go on the offensive. We need to make them waste THEIR TIME and MONEY on fighting our proposals, instead of having unpaid interns crank out gun control bills that we spend all our time fighting.

Unfortunately, all of that hard work was lost the day that 20 kids were killed.

Let's be real honest here, the real reason those kids are dead is because the murderer's accomplices in congress made killing fields for them. They are the ones that enable madmen to work in safety and we need to stop pretending that those who make our children and families defenseless are anything other than maggots hell bent on the consumption of the body of the Republic. They have no virtue or integrity and should treated accordingly.
