I call and set up an service call for my washer and dryer.

Due to the fact that I work - I took the Saturday appt.  I had to be here from 8 am to 5 pm.

I came in from mowing the yard and saw that I had a mgs on my cell phone.  They called around 2:30 and I got the msg at 3:20.  Due the tech or the routing service not being able to varify that I was at home they canned my appt.  I guess that they cuould not call the home number due to one of my boys being on the internet.

all I can get is that they will reset the appt for Thursday, and that my appt for today could not be reset due to the tech have left the area.

SEARS BLOWS

Rant off - I hope that this stops one person from buyting a ref, washer/dryer from them or a service call.  God I know that on monday I am call someone else.

Sears sucks because no one in your house is capable of answering your cell phone?

You're lucky to get them to offer to re-schedule you so soon!!!!!!!!! They have been fucking with my air conditioner ALL SUMMER!!! They tell you one thing then they follow up two or three weeks later.

I have no question why Sears is in trouble financially. They have spent at least a thousand bucks in parts and labor to repair a $400.00 air conditioner. They could have relplaced it TWICE for the money they have spent! Freaking idiots.

I do not have my cell phone on me during the weekend , esp mowing the yard.  I do not expect my boys 4 and 6 to answer it.

and for what it is worth - the boy was looking up the history of sharks on the BBC web page.

seems to me a busy home line indicates people are home
so do a drive by and check
and those "between 8-5" appointment times are the worst customer service ever

for the future, get call waiting on the home line and get this

If they can't get a hold of you - no matter how good your reason is to not answer the phone - you can't very well expect them to show up. Sorry dude - gotta side with Sears on this one.

I had the opposite problem. I called for a service appointment, then I was able to resolve the problem on my own. I canceled the service call, but they showed up anyway.

The part that I set me off is that the service man has left your area and we can not reschdule you for today.

if he was in my area and got a busy sig on the land line you would think that someone was home.

I did not know that I had to reconfirm the appt. that we had set for today between 8 and 5.

Plan on having your cell phone and try that call forwarding thingy.  Modern technology only works if you USE it.

Sounds like Sears did OK.  They have always been prompt for me.

Seems to me if the kid(s) are smart enough to be surfing the web unsupervised, they can handle the phone.

while I understand your frustration, I think they conducted themselves well in trying to call you.

I have had nothing but good results in using Sears service, and theirs is the only extended warranties that I will buy.

My thoughts also.

Sorry dude, Sears did nothing wrong in my book.

Every time I call them for service for my In-laws, they tell me while I am making the appt. that they will call few hours before they come out, and they do.

why did you wait until the afternoon to mow the yard when you know they won't be there at 8am. You should've mowed at 8am and then hung arund inside until your phone rang.

Look in the mirror for the person to blame on this one.  I would have had my cell phone on me, in vibrate mode, but I guess some folks don't think that far ahead.

Letting 4 and 6 year olds browse the internet unsupervised is a Bad Idea.  Regardless of what they're viewing, using the internet puts you one mistyped URL away from being inundated with porn and other things you might not want them looking at.

You do know that Sears and Kmart are owned by the same holding company, right? What kind of service do you get from kfart? Also, Sears usually subcontracts, so be careful who you let in the house, what they see, and if they know what the hell they are doing. Been to plenty of hookups after Sears contract employees hooked up dryers and ranges and left them leaking at the fuel line hookups. I am not impressed with the caliber of person they send out. If you are pissed, cancel your sale and tell them you were there, were waiting and your time was wasted. I hope you used your non sears CC to buy them.  BTW, since the phone was busy I would hope the stupid SOB that called to verify you were home realized the reason the phone was busy was that it was being used, ergo someone home. Thats a BS excuse BTW, common to put blame back on the customer, when they were probably calling to cancel, or to tell you they were going to be late.

Sears sucked because they couldn't reach you at your home # because your boys were on the net?
Sears sucks because the secondary cell # you gave them (knowing you had a weekend appointment) was not answered because

I do not have my cell phone on me during the weekend

Why in the blue fuck did you give them the secondary # to call you on?

This whole thing is your own damn fault and yet you blame Sears?

Sorry but you gotta wear this one!

And I am pretty sure customer service told you they call to confirm you are home.

1:  He set up an appointment for them to VISIT between 8-5, not for them to call.
They tell you up front they that call and confirm someone is home. 2:  He WAS home at the appointed time.
See above
3:  The "service" person called and got a BUSY signal, with BUSY indicating someone is home.
Busy? or the voice mail picked it up?
4:  The "service" person did NOT visit, as would be the normal SOP when someone schedules a VISIT.
No it's not the SOP for sears, it's sears policy to call and reconfirm due to high volume of people in need of service
5:  I was a fraud investigator for Sears, so I don't exactly care for them either.
And this qualifies you how as to customer service?

It's not HIS fault the person did not show up as previously scheduled, and chose to call.

WTF is your problem being an obvious sears hater?
There SOP , I say again, their sop has been for the last ten years to call and confirm that an adult person will be home , PERIOD!

UGH... this is gonna kill me to say this because I REALLY FUCKING HATE SEARS SERVICE!!!!

They were most likely backed up and called to "lighten" the load... nothing wrong with reconfirming

HOWEVER!!!!!!

As a service person myself, I have to agree with you that if they WERE in the area... at least go by the house and "Tag" The door. It has happened that I would go by the home and sure enough they were out gardening.

So I see your point as well as theirs.

In conclusion... I have offered NOTHING! Sorry.

Cars suck bigtime.  I failed to plan to go by the gas station, and on my trip, it ran out of gas.  The gas gauge flashed red, but I did not notice it, as I was talking to the passengers in my car.  I blame the manufacturer.

That sucks that they did not drop by if they were "in the area", but I do agree if your kids can surf the internet unsupervised they can answer your cell phone for you, especially if you are waiting on a service guy. My 5 year old answers the phone for me all the time if I'm in the shower, etc. Also, most cell phones have a vibrate feature, when mowing the lawn it is usually in my pocket with vibrate on, I never miss a call.......

How many service techs do you know of that have access to the internet while driving a truck? also, not all area's have maps available. I am a service tech and can tell you this happens a lot. We call our routing dept and sometimes its not on yahoo or mapquest either.

A little off topic, but if you're still using dialup, the cheapest solution is something called "busy line transfer". It's supposed to transfer your call to a voicemail number, but you can just give the phone company your cell phone number when you set it up. I think it only cost me $1.50 a month and was cheaper than another other "data/call waiting" system they had.

We ALWAYS tag the door on a call. We do call aheads if the customer requests it, but we STILL go by and knock. Sears blows when it comes to delivery calls, they contract out to whoever will do it the cheapest, and some are incompetent and unknowledgeable. I guarantee they were running behind, and now can blame you.

You know, lots of guys are saying Sears got a busy signal; but I never see the OP mention it. Don't see how they'd get a busy signal if he's not even using the phone.

Edit: whoops: the landline was on dial-up.

Still, no one picking up or replying to the cell is a fair indicator nobody's home.
