I always thought Splinter and Slither were two very underrated Horror/Sci-Fi movies.
I will have to check it out. |

You can't be serious? There is only one Sci Fi movie worse than this and that's Plan 9.

Read the short story (the 2nd type) many many years before the movie came out.
When I saw it in the theater I kept thinking...why do I think I know this plot....serious dejavu (it wasn't exact but close enough) Yep same story! Great movie. |

Way ahead of its time, like most of the stuff PKD wrote. And yes, the movie is highly under-rated.

Unfortunately, allot of sci-fi is underrated because Hollywood doesn't take it seriously. Some other underrated flicks:
- The Signal - Europa Report - Moon - Cherry2000 - Dead End Drive-In - Sunshine - Trance - Source Code - Life - Leviathan - Deepstar 6 - Lifeforce There are a ton. I like cheesy sci-fi allot, like old Corman stuff. |
|
Not a bad flick. I remember watching it in late middle school or early high school iirc. The teddy bear at the end was great.

|
Always liked it.
Agree Slither was also underrated - and funny. The Signal, had the best ending twist in a while |
|
I love this movie, but haven't seen it in years. Might have to find a copy myself.

I was just thinking about this movie a few weeks back. Saw it on the Sci Fi channel years ago when S.F. channel was good. Completely underrated flick, and just added it to my amazon watch list.

The original Critters was a good movie too.
There, I said it. |

Lifeforce...saw that one in the theatres as a teenager, blew me away.

Smoke your reds. View Quote Been one of my favorite, unheard of Sci-fi flicks for some time. You have to wonder about the priorities of a society that unleashes a combat AI on autopilot, enables them to manufacture themselves, and just never thinks twice about it......for years. Sounded like a good idea at the time I guess ![]() |

I'm going to throw up Sphere as another highly underrated Sci-fi movie.
And just for shirts and grins yesterday I saw a movie called Extraterrestrial that came out in 2014 that was far better than I thought it would be. Give it a shot if you you've got a hour and a half to kill and you're bored. |

Saw it in the 90s and finally caught up with it again last year. I felt like it held up much better than expected. Much better movie than critical reviews suggest.

It was your usual straight-to-VHS/Cable C-movie fare, but I do give the Critters franchise props when they used actual lasers for the laser guns in the last movie.
Looks like they used a blue Helium Argon gas laser, and a smoke generator on-set to make the beam show up well on film. It was impressive in how "real" it looked, even if well.. that's because it was real. Even if it wasn't even 1-100th the power needed to actually kill someone or even burn them a bit. Although they did technically violate several FDA/OSHA laser safety regs that apply to commercial use or display of lasers, which presumably covers a movie set. ![]() |
