I'm doing a little research for the new AR upper I plan on getting with my Tax check. The upper will be a Rock River 24" Varmint flat top. I'm thinking of putting the Springfield Armory Gov. model 4-14X 40 5.56 rangefinding scope on it. Or possibly a different scope in the $300-$400 range. The problem I'm having is which rings to get. I had my mind set on Badger rings until I found out there runnin' about $150 or so. I'm looking to spend no more than about $60. Also do I need a special base for them or do they mount directly on the flat top themself? Or is the flat top a weaver rail? The scope once mounted will not be switched to other rifles so quick release is not needed.

I just scoped my Bushmaster Varminter. Put a leupold 4.5 x 14 50mm long range tactical on it. It has a 30 mm tube. I opted for the armalite mount #EX0022. It attaches to the flattop and keeps the scope as far forward as possibly, for proper eye relief. I got it direct it was $89.

Is the armlite mount rings and bases(ala one piece unit)?

Leupold quick release, extra high should be under $60 or the Burris "Zee" rings (?) are also a good bet. Redfield also makes a pretty decent SOLID ring.

I've got the Leupold Mark IV extra high rings with the Tasco Super Sniper-M. I would recommend the Armalite 1 piece unit. It positions the scope further forward. Here's pics of both (BSA 6-24x Contender on the ARmalite mount)
