After looking at several .22lr rifles and originally wanting a bolt action I decided on the ruger 10/22 semi-auto.  After all it's like the Honda Civic of the gun world; everybody has one and aftermarket parts are everywhere.  So, the only thing it lacks now is a decsent scope.  By decsent I mean the best possible scope for $50 or under (it's a rimfire for crying out loud).  I'm going to use this rifle mostly for target shooting & gopher hunting.  I was looking at the Bushnell model 76-2239 which is a 3-9x32mm specifically designed for rimfires for around $40.  Is this a good scope and if not what do you guys suggest?  Also is there anything else I should consider adding to this rifle?  Thanks for all your help.

I had a Simmons 3-9x40 on top of my 10/22.  Had it on a bolt .223 before.  Held it's zero like a champ.

I would get dime sized groups at 50 yards every range session without having to make any adjustments.  Best $50 I ever dropped on a gun part!

I had a Bushnell on mine and it worked fine.  You're not going to be making any 500yd shots and shock to scope by recoil is almost non-existent, so I don't see paying over $60 for a .22lr rifle.  You could get one of those Colt clone rubber coated scopes if you want it to be a beater gun.

I use a plain old Bushnell 4x on mine.  Holds the zero just fine.

Simmons or Bushnell will do fine.
I just put a Simmon's 8-Point 40mm on a 10/22. I also have a 10/22 with a 32mm Tasco. Asthetically, I like the 32mm scope better.

My take is to keep the objective 32mm. On a .22 I like the sight axis to be as close to the barrel as possible. Those cheesy weaver style rings will keep the scope close to the weaver rail.
This won't work with the 40mm because the objective will not clear the barrel.

Don't buy those little .22lr scopes with the top off rings. The reticles shake loose in every single one I have seen. Get rid of the factory scope base, get a weaver mount and a regular 1" rifle scope. I got a Bushnell Sportview 3-9x40 for around $30 at the fun show.

If I had the money, which I don't, I would buy a Shepherd .22lr scope. People have reported 600 yd varmint shots using that thing.

Ditto to what Imbroglio said about ditching the factory mount.  Put a standard Weaver rail on it.

Here you can see how the weaver style rings keep the optics "hunkered down" to the rcvr. This is with a weaver rail. Nice and flat and low profile. I can get a good cheek weld, if your heavy in the face, you might not like this.

Get the Simmons "22 mag" rifle scope. THey are 3X9 and plenty good.  I have one on both my 10/22's The 10/22T regularly shoots 1 hole groups with this set up. I think they are around $40

First thing: [b]Get rid of that worthless dinky rail and get a real rail to mount the scope on.[/b]

Next:  The scope you choose [b]MUST[/b] have an adjustable objective (A/O).  This is absolutely critical because scopes without this feature will have severe paralax at the ranges you will be using the .22 rimfire for.

Has anyone ever used those ~$39-49 scopes like you see in tapco advertisements or others?  BTW, they are like 4X10Xxx or 6X10Xxx.  I just wondered if they are even worth a look since it could be used on a .22.

If I remember correctly the Simmons 22 mag scopes are set up to be paralax free at 22 ranges. Mine seem to work just fine without the A/O
