Senator Proposing Tougher Gunrunning Laws

June 9, 2003

Senator Chuck Schumer is looking to crack down on gun trafficking.

The New York Democrat will propose new legislation this week that would double sentences for interstate gun traffickers. Under the legislation, the maximum prison term for anyone convicted of gunrunning would double from 10 years to 20 years for each offense.

New York ranks first in the nation for crimes committed with out of state guns.

Schumer says Interstate 95 is frequently used route for interstate weapons trafficking.

A study by Schumer's office says the number of guns from the South that were used to commit crimes in New York, more than doubled from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, 3-thousand-662 New York crimes were committed with guns purchased in another state.

Not that I have any love of criminals, but all this is going to do is screw some guys who break the law.  They would get less time for murder.  This is asinine.  It's the equivalent of giving life sentences for selling a few ounces of coke.  I hope it's his son who gets caught by this law.

IMHO, there are four groups of people in this country:

1. Government-related
2. The rich
3. Criminals
4. Everybody else

Laws affect some people more than others. Care to guess which people?

Schumer is a moron. If what he says is true, then such a law is just going to make the price of these "illegal" guns go through the roof. The badguys will still buy them. The smugglers will still deliver them. But with the added cost of weapons that will follow, it will just become another big business like the drug trade. Take a look at the drugs that flow into the country each year. The harder they are fought, the more money is to be made by the criminals. As long as there is a demand for these guns by the criminals that are buying them, someone will be willing to deliver them. All Schumer's idiot plans do is complicate things for honest people.

The Gun War, sequel to the failed Drug War.

It's odd in that IIRC conservatives were in the vanguard of the Drug War and now it's liberals with the Gun War.  That only tells me that as a nation we are schizophrenic about what is the bogeyman of the day or at least we are portrayed by the media that way.

Actually that isn't true.  Many liberals have been huge supporters of the Drug War.  Most notable is Paul Wellstone who when he ran for Senate the first time in 1990 accused his Republican opponent and Pres. Bush of being soft on drugs!  Liberals know that their core constituents are the ones really screwed by drug abuse.

Hippies use drugs

Hippies are all liberals

Hippies are against violence of any kind, even self-defense

Hippies love trees and animals

Therefore.......liberal hippies generally like candidates who support legalizing drugs and banning guns, while hugging a tree someplace.
Liberal hippies are really F'ing stupid!

BTW, what the hell were we talking about? LOL, oh yeah, Schumer's gun plans. Sorry for the rant on liberal hippies.
