Two Arrested In Teen Mall Brawl

ARLINGTON, Texas, 9:37 p.m. CDT May 23, 2002 - A fight broke out at a North Texas shopping mall Thursday afternoon, creating a frenzied scene. Hundreds of brawling teens flooded from the Parks Mall in a sea of flying fists and kicking legs.

Several separate battles would follow as the teens waged their wars and police and mall security tried to calm the crowd.

An unusually large number of high school students were hanging around the mall Thursday. According to the Dallas Independent School District, the teens had been let out of school early because it was their last day of class for the year.

One group of teens had been wandering the mall, harassing and even getting physical with other customers, according to Christy Gilfour, of the Arlington Police Department.

"They were creating a disturbance, pushing some customers, causing some minor property damage. And they were asked ... to leave and began being escorted out by officers," Gilfour said.

The ousting, however, quickly led to pushing and shoving and then exploded into an all-out brawl inside the mall, Gilfour said.

Once outside, things only got worse. As the students ran from the building, Chopper 5 captured even more fighting.

Pockets of battles peppered the sea of bodies flowing into the parking lot.

Our helicopter camera recorded several students being punched and kicked in their faces and pummeled about their bodies. Several crazed groups ganged up on individuals, repeatedly attacking them from all angles.

Arlington police rushed to the scene and began trying to break up the crowd. They arrested two adults for assault, according to Gilfour, but it's not yet known if they were high school students.

Despite the violence, there were no injuries reported, Gilfour said.

Actually, they were using a common 'urban camoflage' tactic: they dress like the hoods they're ousting and single out the worst offenders for some special attention.

...Several crazed groups ganged up on individuals, repeatedly attacking them from all angles.

'Crazed' is the way the media describes ninjas flipping out and chopping off heads!

Lumpy,

Bring back the "attacking bear" sig. pic.  Makes me laugh everytime I see it.

They should take those kids, along with the worthless parents that "raised" them and make an example of them by executing them on the court house square.

Oh I just thought of something.

Ever watch the Ultimate Fighting Championships?

Maybe these punks should enter as contestants.

Ah, yes, the flip side of Steyr Aug's "What kids USED to be taught" thread.

This, KentState4U is EXACTLY why adults must decide what kids "need" to know, and why kids cannot "decide" what they should learn.

I spent about 5 1/2 years doing security work for a large mall, part of that as Security Director. Fights in malls can really be dangerous. We had one night in particular where fights were breaking out all over the mall and eventually 911 was called. One guy was thrown through a window and there were reports of shots fired (but never confirmed). I still remember the comment that one State Trooper made while we attempted to keep things under control, "you guys gotta be crazy to work here unarmed, no way in hell I would do it". Some of the crazier things I have seen while there include 2 Security Officers being cut with a knife while breaking up fights, one Security Officer being smashed in the face with a juice bottle while breaking up a fight (requiring steel plates and reconstructive surgery), and one female Security Officer who was jumped and the guy tried to rape her in a back corridor (she managed to kick him in the nads & drove him off). About the only thing I never saw while there was an actual homicide. Gun calls were the scariest. I have an award on my wall from the local PD for my part in helping to disarm a scumbag who pulled a gun on two LEOs in a crowded food court. Those were crazy times and I don't miss the job.

Lumpy...The mall is full of strange stuff...I went to the Gap a few years ago and while I was paying for my stuff a couple of thugs and a girls start running circles around the store. WTH???  Ends up that the guys were stealing stuff and got spotted.  Well long story short me and another guy who worked there(young kid maybe 18 if that)tried to stop them from leaving.  I grabbed "mine" and this poor kid grabs the other.  The Gap worker was hanging on to the shirt of his guy and was literally getting drug out of the store on his knees.  At this point the girl's in the store and my guy sees the door gates coming down and really starts to weird out.  I ended the problem by giving him a WWF type body slam(BTW I had JUST eaten and was soooo friggin full I almost threw up on him). Mall Ninjas get there and tell me thanks.  I asked them is this a common thing..."Everyday" they reply....Mall Ninjas must get alot of practice...

These folks must not have been too intelligent roughing up customers like that.  Texas is a concealed carry state, and some of those boys up north don't play.  I'm heading up that way tomorrow for a friend's birthday, and anyone attempting to rough up my wife and my kids will not live long enough to regret it.

Say what you want, but there was a time when society was more civilized than it is today.  A time when crimes considered petty by today's standards would get you killed.  People, and I use that term loosely, like these would not have lasted long in that time, or would have known better.

God Bless Texas

GodBlessTexas,

Dont know how to put this gently since you say your going up there soon...

But If I was 18, had nowhere to go nothing to do, and had a wild hair up my @$$. North Park Mall is somehwere I would not  be worried about some uptight YUPPIE defending him/herself..
