I do not hold a FFL

I cant seem to find a definitive protocol to shipping a handgun. I have used FedEx to ship a shotgun to a licensed FFL dealer with no problem, but is a handgun any different since im not licensed?

Considering ARs- Do uppers and lowers have to go to FFL? If yes, what parts can be removed to allow a standard "other" shipment?

Thanks for any info provided, I tried the search for the forums, but could find anything recent...

have a nice weekend arfcomm....

I shipped a Glock via UPS. I had to take it to a hub, UPS stores will not take it. It has to be declared a firearm and thats it.

Shipping Handguns:
USPS - BOTH the shipper and receiver have to hold FFL's.
UPS and FedEx - Either the shipper or receiver have to hold an FFL BUT they both require handguns to be shipped Next Day Air.
I verified this with the ATF, USPS, UPS and FedEx.

UPS will take handguns by 2nd day air now. Just have to ask.

Loosely related to the original post:

The US Post Office will not ship a handgun. But, they had no problem at all shipping my machinegun and insured it for 10 grand without batting an eye.

USPS will ship handguns as long as both the shipper and receiver are licensed. You can ship a machine gun as an individual. As long as it has a stock it is considered a rifle (even MAC's). But I strongly suggest shipping Class 3 items Registered Mail. The insurance costs are cheaper and it has to be signed for at all stops along the way. Takes a bit longer than Priority Mail but it's much more secure.
