Me too!!! Very Intense flick. Nobody buy nobody got up to use the bathroom or get snacks during the show. That should tell you how good a movie is. I will see it again..... |

Saw it tonight with my 13 year old son (who aspires to go Infantry and progress to SpecOps). A fine movie indeed. We both thought it outstanding. I've never seen anything quite like it. Certainly the best movie I've ever seen to simply explore men in battle. I'll be looking for the soundtrack next week. Sounded good.

Talk about being put in the hot seat!! Awesome movie!!
Tough to watch the part where Shuggart and Gordon gave their lives for Durant. I shed some tears there. Those D-boys shure are something. One thing pissed me the fuck off though. People got up and left before the names of the deceased were listed. That was just downright disrespectful!![pissed] |

Apprentice Certainly the best movie I've ever seen to simply explore men in battle. I'll be looking for the soundtrack next week. Sounded good Soundtrack!!!!! I didn't know it had a soundtrack. All I heard was bullets whizzing and incoming RPG's with the pitter patter of little dead skinny's hitting the ground..... |

lordtrader, mojo, colinjay, the lovely Mrs. Jarhead and myself saw it tonight and I was just knocked out. As I said after the movie was over: If I learned anything from the movie on a rubber-meets-the-road level, it would be that there is no such thing as too much ammo.
Just phenomenal. I got choked up a few times...when they were cutting CWO Wolcott out of his Blackhawk...whew. Mrs. Jarhead says, "Don't wait for it to come out on video. See it on the big screen." But I will own this DVD. |

Whoa! There was a guy named Wolcott in the film??? I have a guy that works for me that just got out of SF's with a name almost the same. He knew a couple of those guys and was there afterwards. He will be interested to know I am sure.

it really hurts to think that these people were "in the shit" when i was bitching about getting up at 6:00 in the morning to go to school. theres a quote on the saving private ryan dvd that really hit me and it was something to the effect thinking of all the times before that you thought it was hard to get up at 8:00 and punch the clock at work, and here these "boys" at the same age were losing their lives horifically and unglorously for our country. right, wrong, politically motivated, politically crippled. whatever your viewpoint of what happened over there, the point remains that these soldiers were no older, smarter or even braver than you or me, but emerged from a situation that not many of us could have survived with our lives, dignity, pride and honor. i bow my head in the memory of all those who fought not necessarily for "glory and honor" but for each man beside him.

I don't know why they casted Ewan McGregor(Grimes, the guy that made coffee all the time) in this flick. It was horrible seeing and hearing him try to hide his british accent. Ewan Bremmer(Specialist Shawn Nelson), did a better job. He almost sounded southern(he was the one that went deaf). Both were in Trainspotting BTW.
But to be honest, I don't buy movies. This one will be the first one in the collection as soon as the DVD comes out. As they say in the hood, This movie is sick, its the shizznit, the bomb. They did a great job in taking you through the whole ordeal. |

Great movie, very realistic. After seeing all I can say is THANK GOD I WAS A MARINE!!! That was THE biggest goatscrew since Kasserine Pass, Korea & Custer.

Korea-After breaking out of the Pusan Perimeter (with an assist from the USMC, under General of the Army MacArthur), overextended US forces, including Marines, conduct a fighting withdrawal from the Yalu. Custer-Poorly lead US Army cav soldiers wiped out after attacking several Indian Villages. Mogadishu-Well trained and lead elite US Army troops (sent to Somalia by the POTUS) conduct successful personnel snatch mission but lose aircraft and kill hundreds of Somali militia in an operation to recover dead and wounded before fighting their way back to base on the ground. Total US losses from engagement-18 soldiers KIA. Hmmmm, I miss the parallel... If all you got from this was that the Army screwed up and the Marines would have done a much better job, I think you are missing the point. |

BobCole, I have to go with SF on this one. No matter our personal prejudice dealing with all things Marine Corps-related, TFR and the Delta guys kicked ass on an epic scale. Given the political shackles they were forced to wear (no armor, no AC130 Spectre CAS), they performed fantastically.
If by "goatscrew," you were referring to the conditions under which they accomplished their mission, then we are in 100% agreement. |

I wasnt in the military but I have never wanted to join anything as much as I wanted to join last night and go over to Somolia and wip some SKINNEY ASS.
Most horrifying part was when the soldier was shot in the thigh and they were trying to reach up in and grab the artiery. I got a sick felling way down low and turned my head. I could just feel the pain that younge soldier felt. I was glad that he passed out in the middle but was sadden after all his pain and ll he had given that he had to die. Now for the UN assholes that could not make room for them at the end. Told them to get on top of the trucks, I would have pulled him out by the scruff of the neck and kicked his ragtag ass and made him ride on top. Looks like a good place to make the ground into glass. Drop afucking nuke on the place and forget about them. |

As a former Marine, I have only one thing to say...Those Army guys kicked some serious Somali butt. The 500 dead estimate came from those who died in hospitals. The 1000 dead listed in the movie was an estimate based on guesswork and the hospital total. Italian UN personnel reportedly did a [b]FRESH GRAVE COUNT[/b] after the battle. They estimated the Somali casualties at between 3500 and 4000 dead.
After that day, Aidid went from "number one bad guy" to "one of the bad guys." It seems that somebody took out most of his militia. The only things that the Marines would have had with them for the fight that TFR couldn't get would have been LAVs, AAV's and M60A1/M1 tanks and AH1W Cobras. |
