Heated rivals Rick Santorum and Ron Paul exchanged early pleasantries in Saturday night’s ABC News/WMUR Republican presidential debate from New Hampshire.
As Texas Rep. Paul began to answer a question from ABC moderator George Stephanopoulos following a tense exchange with the former Pennsylvania senator, Rep. Paul’s microphone let out a feedback screech halting his sentence just after citing an article that listed Santorum as a “corrupt” politician.
Santorum quickly responded to the timing of the technical malfunction with; “It caught you not telling the truth, Ron.”
Paul was defending an ad that his campaign is currently running in South Carolina, which among other criticisms, notes that Santorum was named “one of the most corrupt members of Congress.”
The study which called Santorum corrupt was conducted by CREW, Citizens for Repsonsibility and Ethics in Washington, to which Santorum says ”If you haven’t been attacked by CREW, you’re not a conservative.”
Take a listen to Santorum’s quick response, and the audience’s reaction to the tiff between the two candidates most closely following front-runner Mitt Romney in New Hampshire polls.
