Guys, my local PX is offering a 10% discount on 9mm handguns.  They have a 9mm shield (with safety)for $340.  With the discount, the pistol will be a little over $300.  I've got the cash....and kinda want a single stack 9mm.

I don't own any Smith and Wesson autos but have several glocks (26 and 19).

Is this a good enough deal to jump on?

Not sure if the Shield does anything my 26 doesn't already do.  I typically pocket carry the 26 in a nemesis pocket bolster.....for what it's worth.  Yalls feedback is appreciated.  Thanks.

If you are happy with your 26 and can carry it everywhere already (which you certainly should be able to) then I don't see the need, now if you just want one go for it.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:18:08 PM EDT
Fo like you've never Fo'ed before
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:19:07 PM EDT
Yes. Do it.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:20:23 PM EDT
If the question is "should I buy a gun" then the answer is always yes. Yes you should. Especially at that price.

fo for that price.  Very solid gun.

ETA:   Since it's the safety version and you are a glock guy, just click the safety off the shield and always carry it that way.  And check it everytime you holster it.

I guess better yet, you should practice "turning" the safety off in your draw.  It kind of sucks, since the safety shouldn't go from off to on in normal holster wearing, but shit happens.

Do they have a non-safety version they can get you?

Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:20:40 PM EDT
I like my 9mm Shield a lot. If I saw that deal I might buy another to have a spare.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:21:32 PM EDT
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:21:39 PM EDT

Excellent price, but I bought one w/o the safety.

Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:21:53 PM EDT
I'd fo at $300. I think that's about what I paid for mine when they came out from a friend who is a dealer.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:23:25 PM EDT
If you don't like it you can get $300 off it easy.

It's up to you. If you think what you got is good enough then there is your answer. If you want the best and a really great single stack for a really good price, then go for it.

And before anyone says the safety model is a deal breaker, it won't engage on it's own so stop with this nonsense already.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  This is certainly a want vs a need scenario.  I've handled the Glock 43......it feels too thin for me but have always liked the feel of the Shield.  I suppose life is too short to not buy a gun that I want and have the funds to pick it up, right?????

PS, my wife thinks y'all are aweful.  I appreciate your feedback!

I would in a minute even though I have one. Good deal for a nice gun. I know several people who have them as well and never heard a bad word

I'd buy the Shield for $300 but it wouldn't replace my G43 though as my pocket gun as the Shield is just too tall.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:56:48 PM EDT
Do it!

(If you end up not wanting it, you can sell it for more than you paid for it)

I love my shield and plan on it being my EDC for a long time.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 3:58:10 PM EDT
At that price, buy it.  If you decide you don't like it, you can flip it easily.  Believe APEX makes a trigger for it.

CSB. OP asked about Shields.

Just picked up a new one for $325 w/ 250 rounds of brass 9mm.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 4:16:21 PM EDT
I'd go for it. That's a great price and they are excellent shooters.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 4:17:33 PM EDT
as a glock lover..I say do it...the small shields are nice...

If you got the money do it. Otherwise your only saving $50

It's true. Glock addicts definitely suffer from an addiction to fugly ass guns.

Do it.  Shield is a great carry gun.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 4:29:40 PM EDT
FWIW I have both a g26 and a shield. I carry the g26 all the time and gave the shield to my son as his carry piece till he saves up for a 26. Nothing wrong with the shield, its just the 26 does everything I need it to do and carries more rounds and there is a very negligible  difference in how they carry.

It's not even how the guns look, it's the slavish devotion to a single brand as the One True Way™.

Maybe less like a virus, and more like Jehovah's Witnesses.  In any case.. OP is winning.

Mine likes shooting 147 weight. Congrats on your purchase, I hope you enjoy it well. Mag-Guts sells an aftermarket spring that lets you load one extra round in either the 7 or 8 round mags to give you one more round for each.

Yup.

I think I'll pick it up.

I concur with the performance/characteristics similarities between the Shield and the Glock 26.  The same argument can be made between the Glock 26 and 19.  Depending on how much I like the Shield, I might put the 26 up for sale, since it gets pocket duty and the 19 gets IWB duty.  I suspect/hope the Shield does better in the pocket carry role.

Again, thanks!

The Shield is a great pocket and IWB pistol.

I have both the .40 S&W and the 9mm, so IMHO you can't go wrong at $300.00 deal.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 4:52:43 PM EDT
I just paid a little under $400 for mine. I would gladly pay $300 for one.
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 5:01:05 PM EDT
I liked my Shield but it required some work.  I also did not mind there being a safety, just hated the one they have.  Too small to be useful.  Reminds me of the slide lock on an LCP.  More of a pain than it's worth.

Totally agreed. It's like a religion with them for sure.

In that case, my religion is owning nearly everything that's NOT a Glock!

And to the fanatics... I've shot Glocks before and even did some work on a friend's compact .45. I will never discount their reliability or worthiness as carry guns. I just hate the way they feel and look with every fiber of my being. There's never been one in my safe, and there never will be. There are however, a Shield 9, and full-size M&P 9 and 22s in there (among several other brands).
Link Posted: 4/18/2016 7:37:07 PM EDT
I would.

What the Shield does that the G26 doesn't do is take up a lot less space. I mean, that thing is tiny compared to your grenade.

I EDC an all-stock Shield now (waiting until I care enough for different sights); I used to EDC a G26 and liked it just fine, but I still carry the one and sold the other.

Buy 2 at that price.  Flip the second one and you'll have all your extra mags.

That is a great price.

It fits perfectly into my Desantis pocket bolster.

Off to the range tomorrow.

Appreciate yalls feed back!

Congrats! I think you'll love it. I've been choosing to carry my Kimber Solo 9, Kahr CW380, and Kimber Micro most of the time, but only because they're smaller. Would have no problem if all I had to CCW was my Shield.
