I have a Samsung SGH-i600 phone, which is basically a "BlackJack" that uses any SIM card and does not come from AT&T. It is a great phone, and I really think it's an improvement over the Sony 910i I had been using for the last couple of years.
The only problem I have with it is that it runs Windows Mobile OS. My previous phone ran Symbian with absolutely no problems, but this thing has the usual Windows problems. I have to reboot occasionally, it will not sync with any email client other than Outlook
, etc.
So, I am wondering if there is an alternative OS that would work with this phone, preferably *nux based. The phone is not "locked", so I don't believe it would be a problem, unless it is firmware.
I am really impressed with the phone in all other areas, and it has saved my bacon a few times in the month that I have had it. Being able to transfer files via WiFi or Bluetooth, and get a GPRS/EDGE/G4 connection for net use has been very useful.
Does anyone know of any websites that would be suitable for a layperson to help them change the OS on their phone?
