I have an M44 that I just ordered a scope mount for that requires no drilling.  How accurate is your M44 with the scope you have on there at 50 and 100 yards?  Do you shoot it over 100?  What power scope?  I got the Darryl's scout mount.

Looks like one of those huge STG58 FAL flash hiders.

I shoot silver tip (147 grn) military surplus.  I don't shoot targets just balloons.  200 yds hits them everytime.  I took it out last friday with some S&B 180 grn sp and was shooting balloons (9 inch Diameter) at 350 yds +.
Scope is a BSA 3 - 9 power.  This is my backup gun when I hunt muleys this season.

You are correct.  I pop the pins(not easy) on bayonet assembly and took it off.  I then welded the flash hider to the barrel, which fit  nicely over the barrel where the bayonet assembly had been removed.there is a stop built it the FH.  I also cut a port in the top of the FH,  which  diverts  a lot  gas up i'm told.  The nice thing besides the accuracy is the recoil on this gun is less than my Savage .270.  Very comfortable to shoot.

First of all I did not use a junker to do this.  This was a excellent condition gun.  But, considering excellent condition guns are $70 or so that maybe a junker to you.  I shot this gun for a while before I modified it and found that it shot very well with the Irons so I decide to convert it over.
Stock is just an Advanced Technology and the Flash Hider I got from AIM a while back for $1 a piece or something like that.  I got 10.  Other details are discussed above about process.

I'm lucky to hit a baloon at 50 with iron sights on my M44.  It's also an excellent condition.  I don't plan to replace the stock, just the sights.  If I could hit a balloon at 100-200yds I'd be more than happy with the little gun.

Sounds like your rifling is worn out .

I've heard of others complaining about the accuracy of the rifle.  Let's just say those complaints were way off base.

I agree! Most of the M-44's I have shoot rather well.  I have only had one that did not.  Some inaccuracy could be attributed to recoil.  After shooting a while you tend to flinch unless you have been shooting them for some time. I love that red, sore shoulder when I get home!
With this paticular one I do not have that trouble.

An additional note is that on the Advanced Technoloy Scope Mount I drill a third mounting hole  in between the two existing ones and tapped a third hole in my receiver for extra stability.
