This is more serious than it sounds.

Hotlinks can be traced, and (let's face it), DU is much more mean-spirited than we are. It's not above them to do all sorts of nastiness here (beyond trolling), and the site staff have enough work to do.

You know, OPSEC and stuff like that?

Why don't you just modify the code to not hotlink DU links?

That wouldn't be too hard.

Or at least post a list of sites that you don't want hot-links too...

GB has enough to do without devoting time to something so mundane.

It would be very simple.

I've offered my help with the code before, but no further communication was given to me.

Most bbs boards have the ability to asterisk out objectionable words - Kerry becomes "*****" for example. Add "democraticunderground" to this list, and URLS with that term will become invalid.

Well, ya know what is even more reasonable and even easier than adjusting the code? How about if they ask folks not to put hotlinks to DU into their posts and folks stop doing it? That would be pretty friggin easy.

Just ban the people who do this. They obviously do not have any respect for the request of the OWNERS of this site, even after repeated reasonable requests.

I'm sick of this "I can do whatever I want" attitude. If you want to do whatever you want online, go start your own website and hotlink to your heart's content.

I cannot believe how blatantly rude some people can be to their hosts....

Thank you. AZ-K9--we are all here as guests of the Avila's. A simple request came straight from GoatBoy to please not hotlink to DUh. Anyone who cannot control their childish impulses and abide by this simple request is being a poor guest indeed. If you come to my home and spit on the floor and I ask you nicely to please not do that, the proper response is "okay"--not, "But WHY?? Explain to my what it hurt, how it matters to you, and can't you just clean it up when I do?" Your attitude frankly offends me.

If I where to spit on your floor you have the right to kick me in the balls. And if some one where to spit any where on my property I have the right to mace them

Who the fuck needs to spit.
