This fucking show is TERRIBLE!
Bad acting, weak stories, horrendous special effects, all these Marine Corps officers get aware with absolute murder and no one has a military regulation hair style. I don't know how you guys can watch this crap. |
|
That shit is classic.
I remember watching that and Brisco County Jr around the same time. |
|
I hated the whole "They're ground troops this week, pilots next week, SF after that."

space above and beyond fucking RULED. You're high. Yes it did, but the only thing I vividly remember from that show was that at one point someone stole someone elses strawberries and cream, and there was a big fucking shit fit about it. |

I hated the whole "They're ground troops this week, pilots next week, SF after that." That bugs me too, its the same way on BSG; the fighter pilots lead Marine or security squads and are dead shot snipers...would it have been so hard for these shows to add one or two Marine/security force characters to the show and make it a little more believable? |

Most obvious answer is that the military consultant for the show was a Airwing Officer |

Come on, SAAB had its good points.
Besides, would you rather see Shane Vansen with a GI Jane haircut? |

I hated the whole "They're ground troops this week, pilots next week, SF after that." Isn't it "Every Marine a Rifleman!" They even have McQueen make a speech about that when they bitch about doing ground work. I recently watched a few episodes and they were actually better than I remember...but that just might be because there is so much crap on TV nowadays. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

That may have been part of why it didn't have consistent appeal. I didn't like it either. It made the who8l story a contrivance. Also, since what platoon is composed entirely of officers? I like James Morrison's cahracter, but too much of the dialogue was full of over-the-top lines, stuff that seemed like it written to impress/appeal to middle-school boys. Watching every other character talk like a pre-adolescent teenager desparately trying to talk/play bad-ass (ergo, "Don't mess with me!"), episode after episode, got old quickly. The FX were probably some of the best out there. 15 yrs later, & "BSG" & "SG:U" sport a very similar FX style. |

Lt. Raymond G. 'Kicks' Butts
Best episode ever It's almost pancake time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpsmM7STI9c ETA: Better, shorter vid to show how tough he was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdgDMtHe4yw I just like how the episode ended. Johnny Cash FTW! |

I liked it. How did they end it? From wiki: The final episode (1.24) ends in an open-ended fashion, where T. C. McQueen is badly injured and most of the major cast is apparently killed or missing in action, with only Cooper Hawkes and Nathan West remaining. Yet with Earth in a much stronger strategic position, there is hope despite the losses and sacrifices. Although sometimes perceived as a cliffhanger, this was the ending the producers chose when it was evident that the show was about to be cancelled. Even with this ending, the producers still planned a possible continuation in a second season, with T. C. McQueen returning to Earth to treat his injuries, possibly given an AI prosthetic leg, and the "Wildcards" receiving a new female commanding officer. There was a meeting between the Chigs & humans, wherein the Chig ambassador basically calls out the Aero-Tech rep at the meeting, that the company knew about the existence of the Chigs & their occuation of the planet, but ignored the evidence, which is what sparked the Chig war. The meeting basically fell apart & the a battle erupted, with some characters were killed off. I would've liked to see a few more episodes to get some form of a story ending, but the series has been too far long gone for that to happen now. It started dark & stayed that way, which is probably appropriate in some respects. |

Anyone else get a weird Halo vibe from the show? After re-installing the game on my PC and watching the show, I could definitly see some shared designs. |

The fact that it lasted as long as it did shoes a colonial marines show might work.

I remember the show from when I was a kid and liked it then, but that's all I remember from it.

Descent Freespace was a playable game that was identical to several of the episodes of S:AAB
well the flying parts of the show and both were great |

It's Science Fiction! What the hell else is there to watch on tv anymore? Survivor? Home Makeovers? Queer World?

Never liked it, either, and was sorta surprised to find it has a pretty strong following here.

I thought it was pretty awesome when I watched it - I was 11, though. The fact that they switched from infantry to fighter pilot to SF guys just help keep my short attention span interested in it.

SAAB was awesome and all claims to the contrary are misinformed. Commodore Ross was also great.
And BSG owes a hell of a lot to that show. Artificial humans who rebel after being made for slavery. Robots influenced by an unpredictable programiming tweak make war on their creators, then, defeated, they escape into space and continue to be a threat. The robots share memories so you can never "kill" any particular one. Third episode, watch this starting at 7:20, Vansen has a heated discussion with a silicate: SAAB Episode 3 (Youtube) Look familiar? That really awesome scene in the BSG pilot where Adama beats a Leoben to death in that refinery-looking hallway? Same god-damned scene. She uses a ka-bar here, but notice the flashlights in the flashbacks. |
|
** flame suit on**..........I thought it was better than Firefly

I liked the show, easily in my top 5 SciFi shows of all time. I really enjoyed it being back-to-back with Brsico County Jr.

New BSG completely rewrote the Cylon backstory, BSG 78', Wikipedia : Humanity lived on twelve colony worlds in a distant star system. They fought a thousand-year war with the Cylons, warrior robots created by a reptilian race which expired long ago, presumably destroyed by their own creations. Having never been commanded to cease fire, these warrior robots waged war against the colonials.

The old British show UFO was the best of the classic space operas, and should be embraced by every Afcommer, since they pronounced UFO as You-Fo. THIS! Watched it as a kid, got me into Sci-Fi in the first place, and STILL is the show I compare others to. Granted, cheesy 1960's ideas of what 1980 would look like, but overall, not bad. Then there were the Moonbase girls, who gave me a whole different standard... |

I felt really let down by the questions it left hanging. |
