A friend is looking at either the SIG P228 or the equivolent SIG Pro model.  Does the SIG Pro accept preban hi-cap P228 mags?

I know SIG Pro's are a bit less expensive than the P228 and also have an equipment rail on the dust cover.  Does anyone have any experience with a SIG P228 versus the SIG Pro?  Because I don't have any experience with the SIG Pro, I don't know how to advise him.  I'm presuming they're about the same size, use the same barrel lockup, etc.

AR15.com'ers have always given me reliable information in the past!

TIA

Uhhh, thanks Demo-D.  Now go wash your hands.  Didn't anyone tell you you could go blind if you keep doing that?

The pro does not take any pre-ban mags, so you're going to have to live w/ 10+1 unless you're a LEO. :)

Tell your buddy to get the 228.  The SigPro's eat themselves from the inside out- the plastic guide rod gets chewed up, and the metal magazines tear up the inside of the polymer grip frame.  My local dealer who handled all the Sig LE business stopped carrying the SigPro because of this.  Defiance is right- no pre-ban hi-caps for the SigPro, but you can still get them for the 228 if you don't mind getting a second mortgage.

You can also use 226 mags, which are a little more abundant, in the 228, if you don't mind them hanging out the bottom of the grip a little.

As the proud owner of (2) Sig handguns,(220 & 239) I can honestly say I DON'T like the Sigpro. It just doesn't feel right to me in my hand. If you will read the gun rags, most always the groups shot by Sigpros are not as small as the other models, regardless of caliber. Definitely go with the 228.

As of right now I own 5 SIG pistols (220 .45, 226 9mm, 226 .40, 228 9mm, 229 .357 SIG). I had a SIG PRO .40 for about 2 weeks – doesen’t compare to the other SIG pistols at all. My fav. Is the P226. I have a P228 for sale – kinda salty though (trying to raise money for a HK91). I had all of the metal parts and magazines coated with Robar’s Np3 finish… it comes with 4 pre-ban 13 rd. factory mags. I’ve only put around 300 rounds through it. I will come down from my original price – have your friend Email me if interested.
