Which would be easier to find given our current use of ammunition in the military, .308 or 30.06?

Neither 30 06 nor 308 will be hard to find. But the Military uses more 5.56 than 308 by a long shot. I don't know of a current military weapon that uses 30 06.

Do any of the machine guns currently used, or weapons on armored vehicles or helicopters use 30.06?

You won't find surplus 06, but you might find some very limited .308. The only uses that I have seen with .308 is some special tactic units, meaning that you won't find any true surplus. "Most likely" it will be cheap re-loads sold under that label. [sniper] "You can run.....but you'll only die tired"

Lots of .308 in the military. The M60 and M240 series MGs all use 7.62 X 51 mm, more commonly know as .308 Winchester. So do the M14s in use by some special and ceremonial units (I have seen photos of the 3rd Infantry, The Old Guard, in the field with M14s). The M24 sniper rifle also uses .308. I think that I have seen a few Garands in use aboard ships, but I could be mistaken.
