I have to admit I have no idea what that means (sorry if I'm particularly uninformed). Are you part of the national guard? Can you get called up for active duty (say in Iraq)? How many people in your battalion?

Doesn't really matter - I'm just curious.

I say GO FOR IT !! Jumping out of airplanes is lots of fun!

Link Posted: 10/24/2004 7:46:11 PM EST
Hit it.

How did ya come across this oppertunity?
Link Posted: 10/24/2004 7:47:50 PM EST
I'm a bit of a wuss and I'd do it
Link Posted: 10/24/2004 7:48:18 PM EST
Sir, Do you want to be a F-ing leg the rest of your life?..

I would have loved to have the chance for Jump School but I will always have to wear the title of Dirty Leg Medic!

DO IT FOR ME!

Laotian Jump Wings? Is that like Red Wings only you have to go down on a Laotian chick?

I'm not sure I'd trust a Laotian to pack my chute, and I wouldn't want to climb into a plane maintained and operated by a bunch of Communist Laotian monkey people. Those fucking Laotians have an average cranial diameter of like 5.25 inches. I think Clean_Cut is Laotian, that should tell you something.

However, all that said, would I do it? Hell yeah! If you don't do it, you'll always know that you're a bitch, so do it. Doesn't change the fact that you're an old fuck thats afraid of running, so your knees will probably buckle and land your ass in the hospital with a couple of green stick fractures, but do it anyway.

BTW, you can only wear foreign BS on your Class A's(above your unit awards and regimental affiliation), not your BDUs. People do it, but the 670-1 expressly says NO.
Link Posted: 10/24/2004 7:49:06 PM EST
Your nuts!!!!

But if that's what you want go for it, you'll kick yuorself if you don't!!!
Link Posted: 10/24/2004 7:49:06 PM EST
If your 'chute fails, you still have 10 seconds to learn how to fly.

Stand Up!

Hook Up!

May as well... theres really nothing physically demanding about jumping out of a plane, so fun for all ages. Even the US Army airborne school is far from difficult these days.

From what I have seen of the NCSG the 670-1 is more of a suggestion than a regulation.

Good bunch of guys, however, who are doing more for thier community than 99% of the people out there.

In the state guard our regs are a bit different...our mg said we can wear em on our bdu's. and he is the deciding vote! he is encouraging us to do this.

670-1 actually mentions the wear of US Army uniforms by State Guards/State Defense Forces, it specifies certain special particulars that you guys need to abide by, but it doesn't allow exemptions to the other rules, they still apply. That being said, I understand it is a more relaxed situation, so have at it.

By the way, are you traveling all the way to laos to do this?

Go for it...

Although there is something about having to be certifyably nutz to jump out of a perfectly good airplane...

(Just kidding, Airborne folks... Just kidding)
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 6:27:25 AM EST
yes, and please take me
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 6:27:33 AM EST

But it's gonna hurt some. What kind of chutes do they jump?

And i hope you're in good shape. This is one area where it really is true: The bigger they are...

The Michigan State Guard kept our armory clean while we were in Germany in the late 90s (we were Michigan National Guard). They had their own equipment area, but no guns.

I can't see doing it without any pay.

You're 47 for God's sake! What's with this old man self pitty crap! Go kick some wet behind the ears arses! I'm in my 40's and I'm not gonna give up the ghost of youth without a fight. I still hold my own with the kids, I just hurt a bit more the following day. I'll take experience over vigor any day of the week.

Youth is waisted on the young!

What's not to like about willingly juming out of a perfectly good airplane, just because you want to.
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:11:59 AM EST
If Pres Bush, the elder , can still jump out of planes, a spry 47 year old sure as hell can!

I'm spotting you 4 years and I'd go tomorrow. Even pay my own way.

Do it!
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:12:36 AM EST
Hell yes.
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:15:44 AM EST
Hell Yes.

One of the most important things I have ever done for MYSELF was getting my wings. I was afraid of heights and got sick on airplanes before I went to jump school.
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:32:10 AM EST
RGR Sir!!
That a opportunity not to be missed.

FREE

Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:46:13 AM EST

Yes and then post pics for us! BTW, I missed you!
Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:53:45 AM EST
Your only as old as you mind lets it. 47 is still a Spring Chicken. I say go for it. You'll regret it later if you don't. Take advantage of any opportunity while you can.

Link Posted: 10/25/2004 7:57:40 AM EST
You're only worried about being too old because you know your age. If you didn't know how old you were, would you be worried about it?

Sometimes the willing spirit needs to drag the body along with it.

I salute you!

It's the landing that can sting if not done properly...

Just remember your 3 points of contact...feet, ass, head.
I did that on Death Drop at Eglin AFB while in the 82nd. I still have my steel pot with a pretty good sized dent in it.

Hell yeah, do it.

I went through Free Fall school at the US Air Force Academy back in 86. I am proud to say thay Lt Gen Winfield Scott Jr went through at the same time. He was the Superintendent of USAFA at the time. A 3 star going through ground school getting hazed right there with the rest of us.

He was 57 at the time.

Hell of a guy.

I can't tell you the amount of respect we all had for the guy.
