Heard this on the radio today, got real choked up.

Because of the violent nature of the chopper crash, the remains of all 38-men are returning to Dover Air Force base.

Once here, mortuary affairs specialists will work to identify each individual's remains.

Couldn't even identify them. The crash was that terrible.

While most/all of us hate him, Obama was there to receive them.  Good for him,
For the first time I guess I will be proud of him. But not for the same reason his wife was.

Banned photographers from taking pictures of the coffins arriving at Dover.

Seems I remember him saying something about that during the Bush years...

SOCOM brass are trying to keep the names of the fallen from being released.  I can understand the need to keep the surviving families safe from the crazy islamists, but friends and extended families of these guys are waiting for some word.

Well I'll be damned. The POS did something right for a change? I heard on the news today what the OP stated. Really sad for them and their families.

I know it happens, but it's sometimes hard to believe that a RPG could bring down such a big bird.[:(I guess they are more powerful than I can understand as I have never been in the .mil. My heart goes out to everyone that has and my respect too.

The next of kin were all notified.  When the friends and extended family find out is entirely up to the next of kin.

I meet all the HR missions that come in, there were so many family members on hand... It was crazy.  My heart goes out to all those families, I feel sorry for the families of the team that was onsite for initial recovery too... That didn't make the news.

If I were POTUS I would be there to meet every plane and touch the coffin of every man and woman who returned. They earned at least that much.

But that was Bush's war and Bush's coffins, so it was very important to show the cost of war.

Now that it is Obama's war, not so much.

And the same press that sued for access then will lie down and nod their agreement with the families request.

I am pretty sure I read an article listing each man and a paragraph or two about what they did before joining, etc, and maybe even a picture or two, earlier today.

May have been linked at Drudge...

I simply don't have enough soul to know what it would be like to stand in that room alone with those remains.

Through the trials and tribulations of the last few days, the riots in London, the small things we do every single day...

The meal I had tonight with a new date.  The pot roast I'm cooking with Bison for the first time...

I just cannot thank those men or their families in any meaningful way.

It's because of those men and men like them, that I get to have all those little things.

Thank you.

Damned silly for a grown man to be shedding tears at his keyboard for men he never met; but, it's about never being able to properly let them know just how thankful I am.  Hell, most of us back home are.

Thank you.  Wherever you are.

KLL

While it's his "job" to receive the remains of our fallen, I'm kind of on the other side of the fence from those proud that he sacked up. I believe he's got NO business being in the presence of those fine young men, who bravely served their country, and made the ultimate sacrifice, with honor no less, things that Obama would know nothing about. The man is a dispicable human being, a scumbag socialist hell bent on turning us into a third world country, and he's made the world a more dangerous place with allowing our enemies to run rampant, in turn, making it more dangerous for our young men and women serving this great country. Obama had no business being there, they're for everything that he's against.

May those brave young men rest in peace, your sacrifice will not soon be forgotten.

Glad to see we turned another thread about American service men into a Obama bash session. Wish people could stfu and leave that shit out of threads like this. Its tacky and disrespectful to the deceased.

I have friends and comrades who were killed on that helicopter. This is all we've been dealing with for the past 72 hours.

If I want to bash Obama in this thread, I will.  It's a thread about the news, not a fucking wake.

It's disrespectful to the deceased to imagine that a thread on a message board is somehow an important part of mourning their loss.

Post a little weepy emoticon if you think it will get things back on track.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
While he WAS there, I know damn well he didn't want to be there.
I would also be willing to bet the farm that even though "no press was allowed" when his campaign is on the rocks pics will surface of him at this solemn event.

No, no...  you must appreciate the aesthetics of his posed, poised grieving.

Shhh... If you criticize, you'll ruin the moment.

Your poised sarcasm is far more refined than my initial reaction to the CIC using this as just another prop for his reelection campaign. Well put LTC, well put.
