The motherboard is a MSI 875P Neo, it has SATA (SATA1) sockets.

Can I use SATA2 drives with it?

This link says a jumper might have to be used between pins 5 and 6 to slow the 300 speed SATA2 drive down to 150 the speed of a SATA1 drive.

Yeah I know I'm sort of beating a dead horse here playing with a 5 year old system but a new system isn't coming until the fall or spring and my ATA drives are full so I want to add a big SATA2 drive.

Thanks.

Not for sure but I think it will just function like a SATA1.  I'd try it without the jumper first - see if the BIOS will recognize it and if so then go with it.  If not, try the jumper.

That doesn't work, hope you kept the receipt.
