That's a bold claim.  Also, unless you label the entire period 2003-present as "the US invasion" it's patently false.  And even if you do, you left out the slightly inconvenient fact that over 90% of Iraqi civilian casualties we're caused by...other Iraqis.  So there's that.

You break it, you buy it.

We didn't break Iraq, Saddam did through his political repression, sectarian repression towards the Kurds and Shia, promotion of Salafism during his faith campaign in the '90s, etc. The idea some people have that Iraq was even remotely a stable nation prior to 2003 is utterly absurd. Promotion of this idea is indicative of ignorance or bias.

You realize that FAR more civilians have died in the U.S. invasion of Iraq than Ukrainian civilians have died by Russian hands?

Also consider that the average Russian has far less control over how their country operates than you do.

This argument is thrown around a lot in relation to Saddam (and Assad), but it has little to no basis in reality. People argue that Saddam was what stopped something like ISIS from coming to power, but the opposite is true. Saddam fostered and created the environment in which AQI and later ISIS were able to thrive. Through his sectarian repression and promotion of Salafism, he pretty much guaranteed that the country would plunge into a viscious sectarian civil war once he lost power. The fact that Saddam actively promoted Salafism and that many former Ba'athists became higher ups in AQI/ISIS throws a wrench in the whole "Saddam kept them in line" argument.

Sure, we've fucked and killed civilians over the 20+ year long GWOT. No one is denying that. There is, however, an enormous difference in conduct between Russia and the US. You have to be blind or intentionally dishonest not to see it. All you have to do is look at how we handled Fallujah and compare it to how the Russians handled Mariupol, Grozny, etc.

What about Ukrainians who were taken there against their will?  Or were present in the country before the 24th of February?  I know one and some of her family that find themselves in that situation.  She was and I still think is a teacher there.
