Why not?  They are the sole supplier of something we need.

In the long run, like most stunts Russia pulls, it will hurt them as they show again they cannot be trusted.

They aren't going to have to try very hard to catch up, since we're going backwards now instead of forward.  NASA's main mission now is to make muslims feel good, not space exploration.

And who's fault is that?  It's our choice to use Russia, and it was our choice to pursue a stupid shuttle program which we had to end.  We have no one to blame but ourselves.  

Russia is providing us with a valuable service.  It can charge whatever it wants.  If we don't like it, then we should have our own way of getting up there.
