Russian TV Says Missing Passengers Checked Luggage Onto Doomed Russian Plane

[Announcer Anna Averina] It is known that six passengers checked in for the
Moscow-Sochi flight but did not board it, an airport official has said.
Domodedovo's [airport] management do not know why the passengers were late.
Our correspondent, Anna Dundukova, is currently at the airport. She has just
joined us live.

Anna, have the passengers who didn't board the doomed flight been found?

[Correspondent] No, Anna, these passengers have not been found because their
surnames have been kept secret for security reasons. However, in an
off-the-record chat with officials from Domodedovo's press center, we were
told that six people failed to turn up for the flight. They checked in and
handed in their luggage, but then disappeared.

However, the press center said that this kind of thing happens often,
especially in the summer. Male passengers - it is mainly male passengers -
check in and then go to relax or to wait for their flight in a bar or
restaurant, where they get held up. This seems to be what happened in this
instance as the people checked in their luggage but did not turn up to board
the plane.

There is an interesting point to note about the luggage. One suitcase was
taken off the plane but nobody knows where the other five suitcases
belonging to the missing passengers are.

[Correspondent] We have also discovered that employees of Sibir Airlines are
very upset and they say that all security measures were enforced fully.

[Alisa Dmitriadi, air hostess] We personally always check the oxygen
equipment and fire extinguishers and the slides that people are supposed to
use in an emergency.

Even the russkies have a denial problem. I heard the bad fuel explanation this AM They need to take creative cover-up lessons from their US counterparts.

Notice they weren't dead-enders. Looks like a chechen, walks like a chechen... maybe it was a chechen!

We don't know what it is, but it's not terrorism! -- They ought to make that the new slogan for every country in the world.

Thank God! When my pane explodes in mid-air because you didn't take the bombs out of the luggage compartment, at least the fire extinguishers and emergency slides will work!

Well, despite the obvious cover-up by the Russian government, I still feel very sad for those who died, and their families.
