You know who needs to be able to run fast? Purse snatchers That's right. Those that prey on little old ladies.

Or perhaps you think that if you're attacked by a Grizzly bear, that you'll suddenly be able to outrun it?

Guess again. You won't. Besides that, a real man would face the Grizzly and box it to submission...prove to it why you're at the top of the food chain.

If the bear catches you at a bad time, you don't have to stop there. You can take it all of the way and get yourself a bearskin rug out of the deal.

What would the runner get? I don't know. Some kind of runner's hysteria or something like that, I imagine.

Runners might be sexual deviants too. I haven't made up my mind on that issue yet. Why else though would they want to prance around in those tiny nylon shorts or those leggings that they skip around in?

Those things were made for women. Not men. Men wear jeans and flannel. And we box bears.

You runners disgust me.

I run in shorts, not spandex, all winter long. My heart rate is 45. I'll outrun, out drink, and out fight 99% of the world. Your opinions are invalid.

I used host and help charity events. 5K or 10K events were the worst. Assholes would knock over concession stands, vendor tables, steal swag, vomit on each other, drop their litter on the ground.

Fucking nasty.

Nobody needs a resting heart rate of 45 or the ability to run all winter long. Deviant behavior is deviant.

Running is good for you. Running allows you to chase down the dudes that flee. Running is victory.

Navy dudes don't like running from what I've heard.

You have a good chance of out lasting your ankle, knee, and hip joints too. Get back to us in 20 years on that and let us know how it's going.

There are MUCH better ways to get a cardio workout than running.

Try swimming, biking, using an elliptical, rowing machine, etc.

I've been running alot for cardio, but yeah, I'm going to drop it down to 1 to 2 times a week and make up the balance with stationary bike or swimming.

Closest indoor pool is an hour drive each way, sadly.

Wanna know how I know you are a short guy?

I had to give it up years ago. Arthritis in my hip joint.

It bangs us tall guys up a lot more than the short guys.

Meh, OP is a pussy.

As my daughters now say, I'm the Dad that can chase your ass down, and then shoot you.

Alternatively, I can choose to maintain separation, and then shoot you at my leisure.

It's all about options.  Runners have them, molasses legs don't.

The key to running is to don't ONLY do running. You have to do strength training, and cross-training as well. I run 3 miles, 3 times a week. But I also lift 4 days a week, do yoga, squats, ride my bike at least once a week, and do intensive ab exercises. I am 6'7", and weigh about 230. 47 years old and I can still run like I could in my 20s. I have been running since I was 17. Keep your body tight and well tuned, and running is not a problem. Think of your body like a car - if you don't do scheduled maintenance, how well will it run at 100,000 miles?

Do your google foo research about arthritis and running - there is no proof that it causes arthritis.

Also, you can have more wear and tear if you run on concrete - worst surface you can possibly run on. Find a trail or a track made of asphalt or do it on a treadmill, but find a surface that is not concrete.

You guys can do swimming or stair master or norditrack - it's all good and far better than nothing. But in my time none of it touches running when it comes to cardio from my experience.
