From the article above:
"I was able to safely achieve average velocities of 4317 fps with the thirty-two grain bullet, and 4050 with the forty grain bullet"
Lots of threads about the .223, but do you think this round has what it takes?

damn that thing is small.
but it explodes and must shoot like a laser.
i use to think that a big slow moving bullet was the way to go but a surgeon with a scalpel can kill just as quickly as a butcher with a hatchet.

So what type of shooter are you?  If you can place that bullet exactly where it needs to be you can hunt with it.  if not I would use a bigger gun.

I personally prefere a larger bullet. I don't care if it's goin 10,000fps, it's just "too small" imho to use for whitetail. Unless you're in TX where they weigh 60lbs.

The new .204 Ruger is a VARMINT round. All of the ammo available is designed for rapid, explosive expansion. You will nor get the penetration needed to cleanly and consistently kill deer.

I don't think it's an ethical choice.

now, a gazillion experts will show up and argue with me.

(Hey, I've seen deer killed w/ a .22, and a shotgun w/ cheap loads of steel 2's at 30 yards, and #7-1/2s up close, and arrows, and everything else...but I still think the .204  (.and .223!) is the wrong tool for the job)

shoot the deer in a place that lends itself to the characteristics of the bullet.
violent expansion, little penetration.  Neck or head shot not chest, gut or asshole shot.  .
So shoot them in the neck or the head.

I think it would work great while out at night spot... sporthunting.  Also in Oklahoma it must be at least 22 cal and 50 grain bullet so no luck. Would be dandy varmint rifle though.

1982 Ford Escorts will kill a whitetail also, but I wouldn't choose one for the job.

Sounds like the voice of experience.

IS that quote correct? The reason I ask is that I seriously doubt a 32 grain bullet would be some 270 fps. faster than a 40 grainer. Would 8 grains make that much differance? Take care.
