My mom walked into the grocery right as the guys were running out. That must have been fun!

HOUSTON -- Police are searching for the masked robbers who held up a northeast Fort Bend County Kroger store using AK-47s, Local 2 reported Monday.

A surveillance camera showed one robber forcing a bank taller to open a safe at about noon on Saturday at the Kroger store in the 9900 block of Highway 6 at Bissonnet.

After the three men took off with an unknown amount of cash, authorities searched a nearby neighborhood near Bissonnet and Highway 6 and took two men into custody.

However, deputies later released them, saying they were not involved in the heist.

and no one shot them? maybe i need to move back home.

If the robbers weren't caught, how does the dumbass reporter know which guns were used?

Surveillance tape?
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 1:00:21 PM EST
This could be determined by watchign the security footage, talking to witnesses, listening to radio traffic via police scanners, etc.

We had a guy here that was hitting BoA branches and was using an AK variant. AK variants along with SKSs seem to becoming more and more popular around here.
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 2:29:41 PM EST
No, you guys are getting it wrong. I don't mean how WE would know which guns were used, I mean how some dumbassed reporter would know? How many times have we read of a ".9mm automatic" or worse? Shit, I believe the newspaper about as often as Cindy Crawford calls me "baby".

Perhaps the reporter actually knows somethign about firearms. Not everyone outside of ARFCOM is ignorant about weapons.

Most are. The odds are that the perp(s) were actually using an SKS, or an old Mauser bolt-action, or a shotgun, or a broom with some duct tape on it..

That would make sense. They're reliable as anvils and cheaper than dirt. No wonder they're popular with criminals. Same reason the ubiquitous .38 S&W revolver is still the most traced crime gun. Price and quantity. Plus, AKs and SKSs scare the victims. An extra, added bonus.
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 2:52:52 PM EST
I saw the surveillance pictures. They were all over the news, and CLEARLY are AK's. The first thing I said was, "Crap... two asshats just gave the libs some ammo today." I wish these fucktard criminals would stick to their cheap pistols and shotguns. Then again, they WERE AK's... not the high end of the food chain, but still, for the anti's, it's a delicious story.
Link Posted: 10/11/2004 2:55:08 PM EST
Lots of 'em out there in bad hands and that is for sure. Go to any funshow and see who gravitates to them on a fairly large scale. Plus they have a very distinctive profile...even for reporters...they have looooong clips!

If they didin't fire a shot as far as we know it could have been an AirSoft but you certainly won't here that from the liberal media.

If you are CHL in that situation, you really have to make a decision as to whether you are going to make things worse by drawing and shooting.

Like I said, if I am facing an AK, one of hte last things I want is a .45 auto.

Anyone else think the guy in the black ski mask is a Brady Campaign employee with an airsoft?

They fired five shots into the cieling of the store.

Definitely not Airsoft.
Link Posted: 10/12/2004 6:42:18 AM EST
What kind of gun nuts are you... "It was an AK"... Was it Romanian? Bulgarian? Whose furniture is on the AK? Let's see some real analysis here

As for stopping the robbery with my CHL, when I get a signed letter from Kroger stating they will cover my court costs for shooting two AK-toting bandits with a handgun, I'll consider whether or not I want to risk my life or a crippling injury to protect their federally insured money.

I'm all for stepping up to help the community; but you would be looking at upwards of $10,000 legal fees as a minimum for getting involved and that is the best possible outcome. Alternative outcomes include being in a wheelchair the rest of your life, watching the dips who hit the bank shoot a bystander in the melee or good old-fashioned deadness.

If I think someone is going to die or be seriously injured if I don't act, then the CHL will come into play. Otherwise, this is one for the police to solve.

I was waiting for that.

Actually it looks like a Mak-90. Look closely at the stock. It has blond wood, a cheek rest, and is a thumbhole stock. Looks like the bulky thumbhole that Norinco used to put on all the Mak-90's. Those chinese guns always smelled funny.

Well, let's see...had I been there I would have had a handgun as would most people. There were three guys there with AK's. 1 handgun vs. 3 rifles = 1 dead handgunner

A handgun is good for fighting your way back to your rifle and not much else....

I'll agree with you that 1 handgun vs. 3 rifles is bad odds. In this situation, it was probably best to wait and observe.

I will disagree with you about handguns. If properly used a handgun is a good weapon. Sgt York took down 5 german infantry with one mag of his 1911.

Some other thoughts:

-It looks like the guy in black may have been wearing body armor.

-Having a spouse or friend with a concealed carry gun could be a big benefit if things got worse.

-training with your carry gun(s) is a high priority.

Yeah I'm suprised that you guys talk like it's AK-47's!!! Unless it is full-auto it just LOOKS like an AK, but it is not. dont use the terminology of the anti's, it will only scare the sheeple!! Yeah you know like how UZI's all take 30 round "clips" of Cop-killer "BLACK TIPPED!!" bullets.
BTW- we all know how since the AWB went away how we've been flooded by UZI's and Tommy guns!! Will some of you gun nuts for once, think about the children!!

I was talking to a gunsmith yesterday tha didn't know the AWB had sunsetted !!!I WAS asking him about threading my Bushy for a muzzle break and he asked me if it was a pre or post ban! WTF

I get amused by these threads. Some folks are just incapable of admitting that bad guys have their guns too.

"It's NOT (blank) it's probably a (blank)

It's probably Airsoft!!

It's an anti-gunner making us look bad!

Fellas, bad guys get these for the same reasons you do. They're effective, they're cheap, and readily available.

It's a fact: They're getting used for crime more often.

Gun owners really need to wake up and address this issue, or it's going to come around to bite us on the ass.

Could be partly because Feistein keeps telling the criminals that 'AK's are their 'weapon of choice'

John in bunnyville chimes in with the lawdawg answer so that the rest of us can feel threatened. John, I don't care what they used, Their actions were illegal and that is where the focus should be, not on the gun, OK? Criminals break laws. You are not going to use that argument to take away more guns.

There are plenty of state and federal laws to address these issues, they just need to be properly enforced. You can't stop all the BGs from getting guns, but at least enforce the damn laws. Don't drop the gun charges in the plea(there is always a fucking plea agreement) stick them with the charges. Honestly There is not a whole lot we as gun owners can do about ciminals using guns. It's going to happen no matter what we know that, the politicians know that. The only thing we can do is to point out and show that us law abiding gunowners don't use our guns to commit crimes with. But most sheep won't want to hear that. To most sheep we are criminals waiting to happen simply because we own guns. What else can we do to stop criminals from using guns, not a damn thing.

You'll get more cash robbing a busy grocery store than a Bank. The grocery store robbery will be investigated by the locals, not the feds, and is less likely to have video cameras.

Locally we have grocery stores that do over well $200,000.00 in sales a day. However much of that is Bank card/credit card purchases now.

Bars are a good target becuase they conduct most of their business in cash, most people wont be carrying, and drunk witnesses are not credible witnesses. I have given the bar manager at our local watering hole a ride to the bank a few times. Last Halloween they had $100,000.00 cash on hand by 9PM he was very nervous about that so they dispatched me to take him to the night drop box.

Someone got close to 1Mil robbing the local 21-screen megaplex movie theature at closing time.

Dog,
Simple logic has been wasted on you in the past, let's try again, though I don't hold out much hope.

1.People see specific guns used in crime.
2.People will think specific guns are bad. People will not give a rat's ass whether the weapon nomenclature is incorrect.
3.People WILL see these specific guns as a problem and vote to take those same guns away from you AGAIN. AWB sound familiar?
4.Sticking your head in the sand will practically guarantee #3. Where YOU want the focus is completely beside the point. The people don't care.
5. Want to keep your guns? Admit that criminals with shooting off "Assault Weapons" in a quickee mart are a problem.

Want to place a bet? How many of the witnesses or victims (or their friends and relatives) who never gave it a thought before, thanks to this little incident are now anti-gun in general and anti- "assault weapon" specifically?

Prove me wrong on my previous opinion of you. Show me you have a 5th grade comprehension level.

No, but I doubt these guys live in a "Ghetto" in the first place. Just a thought, but how about cracking down on our fellow gun owners that SELL the damn things to gangbangers in the first place? "Don's Guns" ring a bell? A seller has the right to refuse a sale. Does not seem to happen much as long as there is cash in sight.

I don't know about where you live, but the local gun show here is crackhead central. They're not buying beef jerky. One fine upstanding gun owner sold a 20 ga Mossberg to a HOMELESS GUY! (Where do you think the money came from?)

I confiscated an SKS back in December that still had the dealer sticker on the stock. He bought it from the original purchaser thru a PennySaver ad. Paid 360$. I'll bet his wife was damn glad. That protective order wouldn't do a very good job of stopping 7.62x39.

you're claiming that criminals without so called 'assault weapons' are somehow less problematic/dangerous than those with? remember, buddy, that cosmetic features have nothing to do with functionality. a remington 700 is just as deadly as an AR as an AK as a 1911.

So now somehow this is our fault, thanks John. I understand you quite well. I also understand that the "justice"system and the government in this country is broken. I don't worry about soccer moms or other mythical figures taking away our guns. I worry about feds that spend 90 quadrillion dollars to put Martha Stewart away and leave rapists and child murderers alone. I worry about people like you that have stated that somehow it is our fault when something like this happens, or blame us for the incompetant fucktards in public office that are trying to make sure that no one has a right to defend themselves. Taking an AK from me has nothing to do with crime, I am not robbing a quikie mart. Once again we have the feds looking at reducing the rights of citizens because of the actions of criminals. Thanks, but that song and dance doesn't play around here. As for your stories about criminals buying guns, I would be more than happy to rat some banger out, Do you know an agency that will not fuck me if I involve myself in such a matter? I don't and I am sure that everyone here can back me up in saying that and I am also positive that we could collect stories for days on people that have tried.

JiA,
You have a couple good points but the majority of bangers are not buying these or any of their guns period. They are stealing them or having them stolen.
