Not certain whether he took any salsa with those chips.

I do wonder if Bellagio will have the mob hunt him down.

They are probably RFID-tagged chips - and he will have a very hard time passing one.

Imagine the odds of 2M and 1.5M being stolen in chips on the same day, both by guys wearing motorcycle helmets.

Anybody wanna buy $500 in chips for $50?

That's kind of a pointless robbery. It's not like you can just launder those chips like you can with stolen cash.

Anyone trying to cash in one of those $25,000 chips is going get a VIP stay in "The backroom"

I would think the casino wqould just change the chips out... Whos to say that somebody else doesnt walk in and cash a few of them...

Its just monopoly money outside.  The Casino only lost the money it takes to get more chips.

the low $$$ chips will be easy enough to gamble with at the same casino, and slowly cash out over time. The high dollar chips 25K and such not so much.

They've probably already changed the chips. They're now worthless.

Hope he launders enough of the $100 chips to buy an RFID scanner to check the high-value chips.

ETA: How do casinos handle people currently holding high-value chips when the house changes chip designs?

one's were stolen?

if i was a casino, i think unique rfid chips would be a small cost compared to the token value of chips (ie 25,000)

If the chips become WORTHLESS, the thief can just claim it couldn't really be robbery.

No, he still definitely robbed them.  Now, it's likely that the value of the chips can only be legally claimed at the cost of the chips to the casino, not the face value of the chips, which could result in lesser charges (though armed robbery is still a hefty offense).

The culprit, however, might find it hard to redeem his loot because the chips are only good at the Bellagio....

I'd keep the $100 and, maybe, the $500 chips and just dump the rest.

Clearly, helmets should be made illegal, as they abated in the escape of a felon.

So if they change out the chips for this robbery event, everybody else holding the same type of chips acquired legally is just going to be SOL?

Can't really do that.  Do you have a clue how much money in chips is never turned in but used daily/weekly by local gamblers?  Local can mean high limit, not just low.

hope he's not a dumbass and tries to dump a bunch on ebay/craigslist and sell his other gear
For sale: silver motorcycle helmet
For sale: black motorcycle jacket; too big
Sorry for bad picture!  Lightly worn jacket/helmet.  as you can see, no large damage.

Dicking people out of millions of dollars for one relatively small robbery, is not smart business.

Do not know the answer to this BUT in my humble opinion; if you leave a casino with chips instead of taking the 3 minutes to go to the cage and cash them in then you deserve what you get.

As my accountant says: (paraphrased) Cash FTMFW.

I would be shocked if they did not do it immediately.
$100-$25000 chips are not common. Would not surprise me if they know everyone who plays them.

Thus, when some guy shows up and tries to cash them in, you check footage and see if he recently played or not. If he cannot name when he played, you know where he got the chips.
