Since catching NFA fever, all but one of my rifles/shotguns is non NFA.  I'm wondering if that's a bad thing?  I live in VA where we don't have any type of gun registration.  I can buy anything I  want (Non NFA) face to face without any paperwork.  Looking at my safe today, I noticed that I don't have any "Battle" rifles that are not SBR'd.  To be honest, I sold my last 16" AR since I prefer to shoot my SBRs.  What are your thoughts on this?  Should I get an "off the books" 16" AR or am I just wearing my tin foil a little too tightly?

Nah.  My collection isn' that much NFA, but a good chunk of it is.  I also enjoy shooting some longer guns as well as the short ones.

Half of mine are NFA.

I keep a 14.5" (+pinned and welded FH) gun around to travel with.

Not if you don't have any use for the non-NFA stuff.  I would have a 16" gun or upper lying around though just in case you want to travel with a rifle to a state you don't have a form filled out for.

True, didn't think of that.  Good info so far.  I guess I'm just worried about all my rifles being "registered".

I built one of these, as right before I moved, I realized I didn't have any ARs I could PCS out of my home state with, lol.

I think if NFA items become illegal, everything else probably is as well.

Non-NFA AR's are more liquid (more easily sold, without a wait for approval). As a matter of fact, I don't see much of a resale market for SBR's. Remember that each time one changes hands, you tack on another $200 (if you don't want to sell at a loss). On the other hand, if you start with a non-SBR, you can always make it into an SBR with the proper paperwork.

Compomise and get one SBR lower and a bunch of uppers in various configurations.

Thanks.  I think I may just build an upper as I have a few stripped lowers sitting around.

Thanks for reminding just how far behind the curve I really am.

Probably should diversify a little more.

Or, you can sell the upper by itself, the act of removing it from the lower taking the lower out of Title II status and reverting it back to Title I status, thereby allowing you to sell the lower, separately.

OP, if you're wrong, I'm worse. I have 15 tax stamps (3 SBR's, 3 SBS', 7 silencers, and 2 AOW's). I only own two Title I guns which aren't silencer hosts-my S&W 686 and the Glock 19 I use as a carry gun (I have two other G19's set up as dedicated suppressor hosts-one 9mm and 1 .22). Heck, even my Charter Arms AR-7 is threaded and set up with a can.
