If your on the surface of the earth(travel by car, foot, horse, whatever) you never travel in a str8 line even if you think you are.

On a human scale for the usual endeavors, the flat earth idealization of the Earth's surface is mere than sufficiently accurate.
So go ahead an walk a straight line between tow points, unless an obstacle interferes. sgtar15, you must be plenty bored to come up with this one. |

Absolutely. The shortest distance between two points is the length of the straight line between the points.
He asked for shortest distance, which is a definable and absolute value. There were no other criteria given. The caveat that others have noted is that the shortest distance is not necessarily the most convenient path between two places. |
