I tried this thread in the Handgun section, but I got no response.  So I am trying here. I'd delete that other thread if I could.

I was looking at a picture of me shooting my friend's Taurus 44 mag with a scope and it occured to me that the front of the scope was really close to the compensation porting. Do scopes get destroyed this way? I would think much damage would get done to the front lens. But my friends scope seemed fine.

Any thoughts?

2 inches at 100 yards.... that is freakin cool.  Thanks for responding.   It seems to be a mystery to me how those scopes stay clean and functional, but they apparently do.
