WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC News) — The U.S. Army says Former Maj. General Ronald Lewis will be demoted and retire as a brigadier general after he used a government credit card to pay for bills at strip clubs in Rome and South Korea. Cynthia Smith, a spokeswoman for the Army, told NBC News the Pentagon’s inspector general was able to verify that Lewis — who was the senior military assistant to former Defense Secretary Ash Carter — will be bumped down to brigadier general because he charged the government for his visits to the strip clubs, made false statements and “engaged in conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman on multiple occasions.” Lewis had reached the three-star rank of lieutenant general, but he was demoted to major general when Carter fired him more than a year ago after an investigation uncovered that Lewis had misused a government credit card and had become involved in an extramarital relationship. http://nbc4i.com/2017/02/10/retired-3-star-general-demoted-for-using-government-credit-cards-at-strip-clubs/ |

I'm retired, but my employer would've pressed charges. I guess rank really does have its privileges.

Don't fire the man. If he keeps it up, he can retire at a private's salary. That would save the taxpayer a lot of ducats.

Of course the lying and conduct is the biggest issue.
But the funny thing about the GTCC (Gov credit cards) is that they're in your name anyway. It's not like the government was going to pay it off. The card holder is still 100% responsible for it. Stupid move still. |
|
Always check what the company name is on the receipts before ordering with your company credit card.
Strip clubs in some cities have steak restaurant names on their receipts to avoid these compromising situations. |

I always used cash at the strip clubs when I worked for the Government.

Just thought of it. Strippers and blow means he must be an Arfcommer. What's his screen name?

Which must consist of officers (1) senior in rank and (2) same rank but senior in date-of-rank. Which can be quite painful to do for a 3-star or even 2-star general on trial. Whereas demoting him to the last grade at which he honorably served is quicker, faster, less painful, potentially removes just as much if not more pay from him via retiring at a lower grade, plus the greatly diminished prospects of employment as a retired GO in the defense industry or private sector. You want to hurt a man, REALLY hurt a man? Take stars away and say "now youse can't be a Major General." I knew a BG who was reduced to LTC in retirement because of shenanigans he allegedly did as a COL which were investigated and "confirmed" after he made BG. That is one bitter fucking man right there. |

Not being .mil, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that a Lt. General is a higher rank than a Maj. General.

1. Unfortunately, if you do a lot of travel, the GTCC is MANDATED and you are required to use it for airlines, rental cars and hotels (usually the big ticket items) as the .mil gets the payback from the vendor od the 1%-2% per purchase for using the card..
2. The derivation of the ranks of General, much like the differences in Colonels comes from the French phrase Lieu Tenans which basically means "to stand in the place of", thus a lieutenant colonel "stands in the place" of the colonel from the days of when a colonel commanded a regiment, the lieutenant colonel would be the assistant and stand in when the colonel was absent. For the General ranks, the Brigadier General would command a brigade, the major general was next up higher rank (Major meaning important) and the lieutenant general (3-star) would stand in for the general or assist the General (who is a 4-star in the US). Liken it to the Navy where there is a Commander (Army Lieutenant Colonel) and a Lieutenant Commander (Army Major). Now don't even get me started on the derivations of the ranks Major and Sergeant Major. |

Hmm after he retired they demote him.
So a guy a my company was fired last year. His father was on the board of directors of a very large client of ours so he was give a lot of leeway. However he was going onsite with other customers for sales and presentations. He always brought consultants with him. That was pretty common but as they digged and saw credit card reciepts for shopping sprees they realized they were basically boyfriends of his that were "consultants." Also he was married to a woman |
