When it comes to researching my topic for my 12 page paper, I get very distracted. What am I distracted by"... ar15.com and just about any shiny object in the room. So,  ask the site that is distracting me for help in researching Liberal and Conservative economic policies. Basically I am arguing that a conservative policy is better and i need to come up with some concrete proof.  I need a couple books and web sources and articles. I know someone out there has done this research already and would like to give me a couple pointers into where to look.

Thanks.

So you decided on the result of your research paper before actually researching.  Not being very objective,

I'll come up with an actual conclusion later down the road. I know I want the ending to reinforce the idea that Conservative policy leads to job growth.. etc.

Is this for a poli sci undergrad course or an econ undergrad course?  The answer to this will help us guide you.

that's usually what you do,

decide on thesis or something you think to be true,

research

than either prove or disprove it with fatcs/figures from research

a good paper will also include acknowledgments and solid conclusion

Every tax dollar the government spends must first be earned by a business that is turning a profit.  All jobs are supported by commerce.  Government jobs are paid for by tax revenue that comes from commercial activity.

If this is an economics class you can show charts regarding Minimum wage and the Effects of Union wages when the market wage is lower.

Yes, but you don't write(an objective research paper, which is the only useful one) your conclusion before researching, then only use facts/figures that support the conclusion.  That's what it sounded like at first.

This is just a normal English class. We had to come up with a 12 page  Argumentative research paper. I figured there would be a wealth of knowledge on both topics.

I always chose my "side" first too and then found evidence to back it up...when and if I already had knowledge of my topic. The main thing I recall from college regarding research papers is...

Thesis, Topic =Say what you're going to say

Body= Say it

Conclusion=Say what you've said.

Good Luck

Your college or university should be providing you with free access to something like http://www.linccweb.org/. From there you can access a mind boggling amount of legitimate data for research purposes.

I will give you my two cents based on my experience (lots of scientific research in college, masters program, and dental school w/ oral presentations at Harvard, around the country etc.).

A comparison between conservative and liberal economic policies is a very broad topic. Do you have a few specific policies you are interested in?

My recommendations:
1. Choose a few specific policies that you are naturally interested in (if you are free to choose the topics), limit the number to two or three
2. Try to develop a general outline for your paper (note: it is sometimes necessary to do some reading about the topic so you can be well versed prior to developing your outline. Try to come up with a stance or a postion that you want to defend or support prior to creating your outline).
3. Go online and find relatively recent ACADEMIC articles published by reputable authors (university/academic scholars can generally be trusted and can be considered "current"); stay away from media generated publications, personal websites etc., etc. as these can be biased
4. Find articles, skim for supporting/contrasting information that relates to your outline
5. Modify outline/direction of paper as needed
6. Start writing your paper

A few notes:
-be very careful to reference your supporting documents
-don't over use quotations just to fill up space
-start early
-do some soul searching and try to believe in what you are writing (it will make writing your paper much more easy and your paper will be much more compelling to the reader.
-send your paper to someone else for revisions prior to handing it in.

Good luck!

that's a pretty broad scope for 12 pages.  you should narrow your topic.

Not necessarily true.  We got along just fine without an income tax or "profit tax" for quite a number of years.

Wouldn't using a broad brush give me the ability to go into detail on each sub topic.
