I removed mine with a Dremel tool. Came out easy and looks clean. Maybe it was my post that inspired you. [;)]

Raptor,
Some questions:

1-What bit(s) did you use?
2-How did you steady the tool to keep from mangling the receiver surrounding the side pin?
3-Once you got through the small side pin, did you just have to 'wiggle' the block fore-and-aft with some pliers to remove it from the bottom pin?
4-How many bits did you go through?

I ask these questions because I started removing mine (or rather a friend with a machine shop did), but he snapped two bits in a milling machine trying to use the 'hydraulic' method that was posted on the oldar15.com site.

Seemed like a great idea, but it didn't work when we tried it.

So now my sear block has a hole in the top and one almost 2/3 of the way through the side pin. When he broke the second bit in the side pin he didn't have another one on hand and I felt kinda bad about how poorly it worked so I didn't ask him to complete the job.

Observer, I don't know exactly how Raptor removed the block from his lower, but I used a Dremel tool with a fiber cutoff wheel. I simply clamped the stripped lower receiver in a vise and held the Dremel tool by hand while I carefully cut along one side of the sear block. I was sure to leave just a thin wafer of the block alongside the inside of the lower receiver so as not to damage the internal finish of the lower receiver. Once I had cut down below the side pin, I was able to carefully pry that thin part of the pin and wiggle the block out. There will still be some remains of the vertical roll pin in the floor of the lower receiver. In the end, I wound up with a couple of very small nicks along the the top inside edge of the lower receiver. They covered up and disapperaed with ease when a little Aluma-Black was applied.

I, too, originally tried the hydraulic method with no success. I'm beginning to wonder if it actually worked for anyone.

Since you really can do nothing but use a LL in it , it makes no sence. Glad you agree.

Is there a place/smith that has experience removing Sear blocks?

Okay, now the $1.25 question, why would you want to remove the sear block?  I would have posed this question in Swahili, but I don't speak the language.

I believe Raptor22 said he did it so he could install a better triger than he had,I would ask the question you did why would you want to devalue the rifle such.

But if you never plan on selling the such modified rifle, go for it. Its yours to play with.

If you have a REG. LL, you can use a postie receiver. Why wear out a prebie when you can rough house a non collector value cheap lower?

Why go though the trouble of taking a dremel to a Colt?  Just buy a Bushie that doesnt have the block.

Here's how mine turned out. Pretty clean if I do say so myself.

Yes, the pin that held the sear block in remains in that hole.
