So I managed to score one of the Remington 700 ADLs in .308 from Dick's. I had a few questions about the scope that came with it.

Does anyone know anything about the Remington branded 4x12x40 scope that came with it? Or the rings or mounts? I'm NOT planning on putting it on the 700. I was thinking about putting it on a mosin nagant or maybe a .22lr. Anyone know if it'll hold up to 7.62x54r? What about .223/5.56?

If the scope came with a .308 rifle, .223 is not going to be too much recoil for it.

I got the same package last spring, it was all in the box, unassembled. The rings that came with mine were Leupolds.
The scope? I have no clue, and I haven't shot with it....

The scope that came with it is a cheap scope made in China. The rings are aluminum (Some did come with Leupold rings, others did not). I used to work at Dicks selling these back a few years ago. The rings are cheaply made, had a few with stripped out screws. I have seen several scopes where the reticles peel off, they fog from moisture, or they cannot be sighted properly. I would dump it entirely but I am somewhat of a glass snob.

did you tap it after adjusting? I hear you have to do that on more expensive models...

I bought a 700 that had the same scope with leupold rings.  Found it fairly decent and holds zero,  the rings/base need loctite or they'll come loose in a hurry.
