Remember when the Native Americans raised hell about the Cleveland Indians? i remember a bunch of white liberals worrying about team names. most native americans are more concerned w/ starvation and rampant alcohol abuse on reservations to worry much about what we call our sports teams. |

I myself am part Cherokee, and I find no problem with naming teams and such for Indians. I am not offended by it and I don't see why anyone would be, as long as it is done in good taste. I have a problem with a certain race of people that think they have been mistreated by the white man and want to be compensated with money and such. I can assure you that I can take a joke as well as pass it out, and you don't owe me SHIT for anything anybody before you has done. We can't live in the past, and as men we can work things out on our own without someone, or the government telling us how to act. Remember: The Indians discovered Columbus. |

The weird thing is the the word chief, or chieftains is from the Celtic language, & it means king, or sub king. I know that's a loose translation, but it's from something I read a long time ago. Did the Indians use the word Chief before the whites started calling them that? Isn't brave a another white eye word as well? I thought to be brave was an attribute rater than a designated position limited to a specific race of people. Same goes for warrior, etc,etc,etc.

Editted to add; Why doesn't anyone complain about "The Fighting Irish" or the multitude of "Vikings" out there? The "Sooners"? The "49ers"? the "Patriots"? "Cowboys"?... get the picture? I guess it is only derogatory if the name implies someone other than a cracker... oops, a caucasian. BTW, if Jesse Jackson attends the democratic caucas would that make him a "caucasian'???? |
