We're dealing with an enemy that worships death. They live to die.
Mothers are encouraging their sons (and daughters?) to blow
themselves to pieces in the name of G-d. Adults are passing out
candy to children in the streets of Gaza and Ramallah following the
dismemberment of Jewish bodies. There is no
socioeconomic/nationalistic excuse for this barbarism. We are no
longer obligated to respect the basic human rights of a people who
have relinquished their humanity. This is not a time to talk,
understand, or empathize with them. This is a time to hate.
They have chosen as their leader a man who's name is synonymous with
terror, horror and dread. Should we send him packing? Probably not
a very good idea. He leaves a path of death and destruction wherever
he goes. He thrives on it. He likes it. Besides, he never really
goes away - he just keeps resurfacing.
Remember that morning in 1992 when his plane crashed in a desert
sandstorm in Libya? When I heard that first morning news report, I
experienced an emotional high bordering on absolute joy, followed by
the utter depths of disappointment when I heard he had survived (his
three-man crew died). He showed up a year and a half later on the
White House lawn. And many of us were so mesmerized by the pomp and
ceremony that we had forgotten just who we were dealing with.
Amazing how some expensive suits, a keffiyah and several hundred
balloons can cast such a deadly spell.
So at the count of three, I'm going to snap my fingers and those of
you who are still in a trance will have to wake up and remember.
One... Two... Three.... (Snap!) Remember... Remember the massacres at
Munich, Zurich, Paris, Rome, Buenas Aires, Tel Aviv, Netanya, Haifa?
Remember when they took wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer , shot him
in the head and chest and dumped him overboard the Aquille Lauro?
Remember Gush Katif, Ofra, Shiloh, Modi'in, Ma'alot, Bat Yam, Gush
Etzion, Har Dov, Kfar Saba, Beit El, Tekoa, Ariel, Sussia, Kedumim,
Binyamina, Hadera, Afula, Nahariya? Remember how a young mother
accidently suffocated her own child while hiding in a closet after
they murdered her husband [Nahariya 1978. C.S.]? Remember Joseph's
Tomb, Rachel's Tomb, Hebron? Remember Jerusalem? Remember how a
mortally wounded father told his burning children to say the Shema
before they died over a pizza lunch?
And yet, Arafat continues to sit there in Ramallah. Ramallah. The
same town where our two reservist soldiers were brutally lynched by a
Palestinian mob outside of PA police headquarters? Remember-how they
threw our soldiers battered bodies out of the window to the blood
thirsty crowd below? Remember how they held up their blood-soaked
hands in victory? Remember how they spoke to the wife of one of the
reservists from his mobile phone and said, "we're killing your
husband."? Remember?
He sits there in Ramallah. He wants to die. He said so. We've got
him in our sights. Now let's do what we have to do.
Final Note: There are those who ask for restraint and are concerned
about the dangerous repercussions of any action, or how we will
appear to the world. They should be reminded that to stand by and
watch the wanton slaughter of our people is a desecration of
everything that a Jew should stand for.
