My brother in law just got a kewl old lever gun from his dad.  It's a Winchester Model 1894 lever gun, with 26" barrel, full length magazine, round barrel, straight grip, steel crescent butt, and in the 24X,XXX series serial number.  Most of the blueing is worn off the reciever and barrel, but very little pitting and next to no rust on it.  What a cool rifle, very long sight radius. It's in really good shape mechanically.

It is chambered for .38-55

Anyone know anything about this cartridge?  The bore is pretty dang big for a .38!

Winchester still makes rounds for this chambering.  I shoot it it often.  This was the preferred bear cartridge for some time as well as a favorite of Charlie Askins.
