Would reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine in news media help our nation?  Look at all the shit that is coming out about Hillary with her criminal enterprises, scripted public events, and major media stations taking strategy from a political party.  Its no coincidence either that news reports about political campaigns at least seemed to be more fair and honest 30 years ago than they are today.

On the other hand, an increasing percentage of people utilize the internet for current events and can choose where to get their information.

The rules no longer apply to the Democrat/establishment candidate.  So it wouldn't make a bit of difference.  Didn't when they were in effect either.

FPNI.

You don't want whomever is in power deciding what is "fair". Just like the right to free speech isn't to protect only speech you want to hear (which is what the SJW's want by trying to label everything they disagree with as hate speech.)

It wouldn't help. What is needed is to undo Bubba's work.  In the old days, you couldn't concurrenlty own a newspaper, radio station and a TV station in the same area. Under Bubba the law changed and there is no independent media.  90% of all media is owned by a mere six corporations.  That's why everything the media gives us is agenda driven.  It's OK for the media to push propaganda since 2013 too.

No.

Any fairness doctrine will be used to demand equal time against Rush Limbaugh and Fox, not the msm.

This.    I'm not a fan of meddling in markets.    But the regulation on this one seemed like a good thing to me.

A couple of tips for the OP.

ANY policy the Progressives want is wrong.
ANY policy title or concept they promote is 180° out from the literal meaning of the term(s) used.

What is it with Textard posts lately??  Either #Nevertrumpers, or noobs wanting more government oversight/control.  Thought Texas was supposed to be the alternative Republic or Laststandistan when SHTF.  The last few posts from that geographic location have been nothing but Kalifornia effluence.

Texas, I am disappointed in you!

OP,

NO!!!

No, but the MSM should be prosecuted and closed down for tampering with a federal election.

You really have zero clue as to what the fairness doctrine was all about.  And that level of ignorance is extraordinarily dangerous.

The FD was all about suppressing free speech and equal time.
One of the biggest POSs who ever graced american politics, LBJ, gave us the FD, to hide voter fraud in TX (dead voting)

You may be too young to remember just how much radio talk shows sucked before it was repealed.

Pro tip: you're not getting equal time on MSNBC. The fairness doctrine is aimed at partisan media outlets like Limbaugh and Hannity and Beck, not neutral ones like New Bavarian Conspiracy, Consecrated Bavarian Seers, Alternative Bavarian Conspiracy, Err America Radio, or Janean Garofalo's MySpace page, or whatever Rachel Maddow is doing with herself these days (did she ever get another job after her overnight show on Err America back in 2006?)

It'll never happen or if it did then it would be enforced by people appointed by Obama/Clinton etc.

All a fairness doctrine would accomplish is that it would become the basis for a ministry of propaganda.

Obviously CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, etc., are all fair and honest news outlets, but Fox news and talk radio are biased right wing propaganda.

So yeah, we should bring back the Fairness Doctrine to shut down the right wing propaganda.

Yes, yes, yes.

Have the government pass a "jobs" bill and see how many NET jobs are created.

It's simple - more government involvement == less freedom.

That's it. There is no "perfect balance", there are no laws that will "help", there is no way that trying to turn the machine against your political enemies is a positive thing in the long run.

No. You also assume that there are only two points of view to complex events and issues.

Who will get to be on the show?

Democrats -yep
Republicans -nope
Libertarians ?
Green Party -?
Communist Party -?
etc, etc, etc.
