Mortgaging everything in the building that wasn't bolted down before the sky came crashing down saved Ford, not the bail out.

They embarked on a much needed restructuring and bet the farm to do it. GM just couldn't follow suit because of its boated bureaucracy and "too big to fail" mentality. Moreover, the "reforms" forced by the government upon GM were largely cosmetic. |
