If life sucks, hang in there - some things have recently greatly improved for me. To celebrate better days, I recently bought a couple Colts.

Both Government models - a .45 and a .380

I'm not a 1911 guy or Colt fanboy and I'm pretty jealous.

I'm not a 1911 guy either, but figured if I was going to drink the kool-ade, I might as well just do it once.

As for Colt, I think the purchase price is generally the lowest price that item will ever have.

Good for you on all fronts.

I suggest matching grip panels, maybe a nice imitation ivory....

Economic was just one of many interrelated facets, all placed at my feet by the negligent actions of others. Being the ultimate responsible guy, I had to weather the storm, ride it out - while the truly responsible could run away. Intermingle all that with responsibility to in-laws who were dieing, some personal health issues, other things I can't even remember... yeah - I wouldn't wish the last 3 years on many people.

The economy and economic concerns were the least of my problems - but since that's behind me... I decided to be selfish and treat myself.

As Ellis says in No Country for Old Men-

All the time you spend tryin to get back what's been took from you there's more goin out the door. After a while you just try and get a tourniquet on it.

That sums up where I've been.

The Colts are beautiful and your story is a welcomed uplifting note for a Friday afternoon.

I'll give you $300 for the .45...
Link Posted: 9/30/2011 1:56:27 PM EST

Yes, Series 70 - late 70's to early 80s model.
Link Posted: 9/30/2011 2:08:49 PM EST
Nice! I just bought 2 380s myself, fuck this city that makes you wait 3 months for approval on each, consecutively

AND I have a NEW Colt Mustang on order! I should have priority as it's paid for and went through a large distributor - that's what they claimed anyway.

Man those would look nice...in my house.

Yes, when it comes in. If you want one, here's what you do... Look up the Mustang on Davidson's Gallery of Guns system - print that out and take to a local GOG dealer and pay/deposit it. That will preserve your position in line per Davidson's staff's emails to me. It's Colt item #06891.

This below is from Colt's latest catalog.

By the way - MSRP is $599, but the dealer said they will DISCOUNT that when they get their cost.

Oh, and make certain your local dealer knows he has to contact his Davidson's account rep to "get in line" for back ordered guns.

Tool chatter marks in the grasping grooves? I had one like that.

Those are beautiful, love that roll mark on the right side of that 1911. That gun is a perfect piece for Heirloom Precision.

I'm not seeing it in real life - could be from resizing the image from a zillion x zillion to a smaller size. I see a pattern in the pics, but not on the gun.

I've got that exact .380, good pistol. I brought a 70 series Gubmnt Model Reproduction, but yours looks better...especially the rollmark.

My meager Colts.

1917 Colt 1903 .32ACP
1917 Colt 1911 (last number in a lot sent to Schofield Barracks in 1917)
1982 Colt Series 70 Gold Cup National Match
1991 Colt
I've got an SP1 around here somewhere but I don't feel like digging it out.

Edit- WTF. I don't know why PB rotated it and I can't get it to rotate back.

Love the 1911 OP! Here is my Colt. It is a 1969 Python given to me by my wife.

Very nice stuff.

You have to use photobucket's editor to spin the pics - not the friendliest software.

As a side note - I'm buying fewer guns, but classier ones.

I tried it in their editor but it kinda "smudged" it. Meh. I'll mess with it tomorrow.

I know what you mean about "classier" stuff. I'm certainly done buying stupid junk just to have more of it. Of yours, what's your best shooter? Oddly enough, mine is the plain jane plastic trigger 1991. Never had a problem out of it and perfectly acceptable accuracy even with the stock sights.

Where is Mr. Bation? He's right here.

Nice OP, Nice.

The Government Model is a great little .380, and one of my favorites. Nice find Hedonist.

I've been to the range only a few times in the last 3 years - I've not really shot any of the nicer guns yet... I know the .25 fires nicely, the OACP was only test fired for function not accuracy. The 2 Gov'ts haven't even seen a range yet. The AR is flawless and satisfyingly accurate.

I am due - very soon the temperatures return to livable and I will be enjoying a range day where I have several guns to try out. In the meantime it's no foul for them to be safe queens, but that will not last forever. I'm limited to a single weekday at the range and refuse to go there on weekends. Now that business and life is stable, I'll be showing up soon.

nice colts you have there

Hedonist,
As a guy who is going through an asskick of a time I can appreciate what you have. I have ended up having to move out 3/4 of my guns to keep my daughters and wife in college and pay the bills. I have faith that somehow I'll get back. Congratulations on the world turning for you and enjoy your new pistols. They are beautiful and may they give you a lifetime of enjoyment!!!

Nothing like a couple of lovely Ponies!!!!

So did I!

Hedonist, I dig the Astra (the maker of the Colt Jr.) .22 Short, or .25ACP? If you got it recently, can you post or IM about what you paid?

I actually own an Astra Cub in .22 Short, and the Colt Mini in .25ACP - paid $100 for the Astra and $350 for the Colt if I recall correctly.

Shooting the Astra Cub is a blast!
